PRAYER OF THE DAY P: O almighty, everlasting God, you have joined together all believers in

to one spiritual temple in Christ. Come and be present by your Word in this place of worship and instruction. Make it a workshop of your Spirit in which your people, both young and old, will be made wise for salvation and trained for willing service in this life to the glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen. FIRST LESSON 1 Chronicles 29:10-18 (NIV) 10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,

“Praise be to you, Lord, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. 12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. 13 Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15 We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shad-ow, without hope. 16 Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provid-ed for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 18 Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.

HYMN RESPONSE Built on the Rock #529 v.1 Soloist, v.3 All

9

GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 16:13-19 (NIV)

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disci-ples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the king-dom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

HYMN OF THE DAY Christ Is Our Cornerstone #528 vs. 1-3

11

SERMON 1 Peter 2:4-10 (NIV)

4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices ac-ceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says:

“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”

8 and,

“A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”

They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

NICENE CREED

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,

and became fully human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scrip-tures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

DEDICATION RITE AND PRAYERS P: Brothers and sisters in Christ, during the past year, while many of our activities

were limited because of the pandemic, God enabled us to move forward with im-

provements to our property and facilities. A new sound system and new lighting

were installed in the church to enhance our worship. The fellowship building was

remodeled and a pavilion added to provide more space to gather and grow in

God’s Word. The church sign was replaced with one that is more visible to make

people aware of our congregation as we reach out with gospel.

May this property and these buildings be a place for the gathering of God’s

people, a place for proclaiming the gospel through Word and sacrament, a place

for bringing life, comfort, and hope to us and this community.

C: We dedicate this property and its buildings to the glory and honor and worship

of God.

P: Let us pray…

Almighty God, Lord of hosts, the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot con-

tain you. Yet you are pleased to have on earth a place where you meet your peo-

ple who gather in your name.

C: We thank you, Lord.

P: For your kindness in sending your Spirit, in moving your people to fulfill your mis-

sion, to organize, to give, to volunteer, to cooperate, to sacrifice, and to encour-

age - all for the common purpose of making disciples of Jesus,

C: We thank you, Lord.

P: For your Word and Sacrament, for faithful leaders, for all who support and com-

bine their efforts to carry out the gospel ministry,

C: We thank you, Lord.

P: For this joyful day, that you have permitted us to gather and to celebrate your

blessings on our congregation,

C: We thank you, Lord.

P: Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to you we dedicate this property and its

buildings, along with all that we are and have. Hear us and bless us according to

your will.

May God grant us His grace in Christ.

C: May God grant us His grace in Christ.

Special prayers and intercessions my follow.

14

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,

your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily

bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom,

the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

M: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and

when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples,

saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this

in remembrance of me.”

Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink

from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is

poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you

drink it, in remembrance of me.”

M: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C: Amen.
