Women’s Club of Inverness NewsSinging in the Rain- Swaying With Stylesupport from WomEn’s Club of invErnEss (WCi) patrons, advertisers, vendors, and guests, helped WCI raise $25,800 at its annual spring fashion show fundraiser “Singing in the Rain- Swaying with Style” on Saturday, April 12 at The Stonegate Conference & Banquet Centre. This total, combined with the fall fundraiser “Girls Night Out,” helped WCI donate funds to 29 nonprofit agencies and 17 undergraduate scholarships for a total of $52,700. ZZAZZ Productions of Oak Brook produced the fashion show, which was dedicated to Raisa Bratkiv, a long time WCI member and former president. Designer Shertnett Swaby showcased her clothing line, even joining one model for a trip down the catwalk. Attendees also had the opportunity to win $1,500 by participating in a cash raffle. The event honored James Brenner, a PHD board member. Funds raised will go to support women who are pregnant or parenting a child under three, those who are experiencing grief or loss from miscarriage, and women suffering from postpartum depression. Funds will also go towards PHD’s Motivate Prevention Programs that educate on topics of rela-tionships, anti- bullying, and positive parenting.
phd’s fourth AnnuAl “bikErs AgAinst bulliEs” motorcycle ride will be held on Sunday, September 7 beginning at 8 a.m. Funds raised will support the agency’s Motivate Prevention Department, which offers programs to adolescents and parents on issues such as healthy communication, relationships, and bullying. The event, started by a member of the church, had 20 dogs, one cat, and one rabbit get blessed. Hor-nickel, a resident of Union, Ill., will succeed Donna Ewing, who will serve as a mentor during this transition and on the HARPS board of directors. “I have big horseshoes to fill,” said Hornickel. “Like Donna, my first horse was a rescue case destined for a dog-food plant, which sparked my life-long ambition of helping horses in need.” Hornickel brings to HARPS his experience as an equestrian health care specialist, a certified professional farrier, a licensed teacher with a master’s degree, and his knowledge for small businesses (he is an owner himself). Founded in 2001 by Donna Ewing, HARPS is a nonprofit organization that rescues abused and neglected horses and other hooved animals.
