From the moment you enter the historical wooden gates and stroll down the lush covered path, you enter a world of elegance and tranquility. With the view of the historic houses – the Grand Stone House and picturesque Richmond Cottage – along with the beautiful manicured lawn lined with royal palms and overlooking the quiet waters of Biscayne Bay, Deering Estate is the ideal location to host any event in Miami. The estate has become one of the premier rental facilities for an array of social and special events, including weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, and celebrations.
From its ceiling to its fl oors and its walls to its doors, all parts of the estate are historic, unique objects or antique fi nishes. The pages of this guide will provide you with a glimpse of the estate and a list of vendors who, through their creativity and professionalism, create grand events while joining us in our stewardship to protect and preserve our natural and man-made treasures.
With the fl exibility to bring in your own specially selected team of caterers, fl orists, and decorations, you can create the event you have always dreamed of. H I S T O R I Cp r e s e r v e
Located along the edge of Biscayne Bay, the 450-plus-acre Deering Estate is an environmental, archaeological, and historic preserve and is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places. The oldest existing buildings on the estate are those built by the Richmond family and Charles Deering. In 1896, Samuel H. Richmond built a pioneer home for his family on the estate as part of the settlement of the Town of Cutler. In 1900, an addition to the home was built and then opened to the paid public as The Richmond Hotel – the fi rst hotel between Coconut Grove and Key West. In 1913, Charles Deering, a wealthy industrialist from Chicago and fi rst Chairman of International Harvester, purchased his fi rst plots in Cutler; in 1916, he purchased and remodeled The Richmond Hotel for his winter home. The graceful Mediterranean revival–style Stone House, built to showcase his valuable art collection, was constructed in 1922. Today, the homes operate as historic museums that feature some of the original furnishings returned to the estate. The State of Florida and Miami-Dade County preserve the estate with the intention of engaging the community in learning through the arts, history, and natural environment.

When hosting your event at Deering Estate, you will enjoy spectacular settings and views. The Grand Lawn is perfect for outdoor cocktail receptions and wedding ceremonies with endless views of glistening water. For an indoor option, host an intimate ceremony in the historical and elegant ballroom, with black-and-white checkered fl oors and crystal chandeliers, or allow your guests to immerse themselves in the history of the Stone House during your cocktail reception as they stroll through the fi rst and second fl oors. Enjoy dinner and dancing under the stars in the Courtyard, bordered by lush gardens and two historical homes. Throughout the night, guests are welcome to take a stroll along the water’s edge, where they can sit on white benches among towering royal palms as they watch the moon shine across the bay.
