Team Birmingham’s Service Project at Eagles’ Wings
• Eagles' Wings, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides day habilitation services for adults with mild, moderate and severe intellectual and physical disabilities, including those who are medically fragile.
• They strive to provide a wide array of services to meet their spiritual, physical, emotional, social and vocational needs.
Our day at Eagles’ Wings
• We spent the day with the individuals at Eagles’ Wings playing games, engaging in their learning activities with them, and just simply having one on one discussions with the individuals about Alabama and/or Auburn football.
• This time spent with the individuals was very important since the organization only has one male staff member, the founder, Jerry Pike
Impact from the day
• Our experiences with Eagles’ Wings is nearly indescribable in words
• Spending time at Eagles’ Wings reminded each one of our Birmingham members just how lucky we really have it
• One of our SA’s said it best when he told our group outside at the end of the day, “Guys, you will never hear me complain again”
Future Service Days
• We plan to volunteer at Eagles’ Wings at least once every quarter in the future and already have a date set next quarter
• We also plan to bring other team members until everyone in our branch gets an opportunity to attend
Prize Money
• Eagles’ Wings is using any prize money that they collect to get moved into their new facility
• With this new facility, they plan to expand from 25 individuals to 50
• This is critical since the majority of the individuals have been rejected from other organizations due to medical needs
