Super Service Challenge2013

Outfitters (located in Pendleton, IN)

The idea of Outfitters began after Pendletons first Back-to-School fair, a fundraising event put on by local churches to raise money to buy backpacks and school supplies for children on the free and reduced lunch program in the South Madison Community School Corporation. Excess funds from the fair prompted the idea of also providing clothes and shoes to these same children. The idea became a reality, and Outfitters opened its doors in 2006. Each year the need grows... In 2006, Outfitters supplied 325 children. In 2012, nearly 1,000 kids shopped for new clothes!

On our day of Service.. We sorted 12 jumbo tubs of clothing donations

On our day of Service.. We organized and stored out-of-season donations

On our day of Service.. We dusted, swept floors, cleaned windows and even repaired a toilet!

Comments from Clients on how Outfitters has made a difference.. Dear Outfitters,I am a single mother of four. I have a third grader that for the very first time got a chance to go school shopping. You have made my kids feel like normal kids going to school with new clothes. My daughters self esteem is VERY HIGH and now she really cares about how beautiful she has always been. Dear Outfitters Staff, As a divorced mother of 4, who receives no support and who falls through the cracks with other assistance programs, I value your program more than I can say. You are a ray of hope when people are in need. Outfitters, God has truly blessed Pendleton with a wonderful gift through you. We have lost everything due to some health issues and the kids sense things are bad. ... The clothes they received from you have made such an impact. They smiled for the first time in a very long time. Thank you and God Bless.

Dear Outfitters,I am writing to you as an elementary teacher where I had first hand opportunities to witness how your store has made positive lifestyle changes for students in my building. You are making it possible for all children to come to school on a more level playing field. These blessed children are now more able to reach their academic potentials because they feel better about themselves. I thank you and I thank God for your organization!

.. Showing these beautiful children they are LOVED

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. -- Matthew 25:35,40

How we will continue to help.. Clothing drive to collect donations

How would prize money help Outfitters continue to serve the community?

Mary Harvey, Director of Operations Our primary need is funding to purchase clothing/shoes and to cover operating expenses, such as building rent.Currently, our kids only receive shoes once a year (in the Fall). We would love to have funds available to give them shoes in the Spring as well.We would love to increase the size of our store and stockroom. We have a large unfinished, unheated part of the building. As the clientele needs increase, our need for space and inventory grows new racks, display grids and storage equipment would help optimize the space.
