Emergency Preparedness Defender Series TM Concealed Emergency Lighting Issue: Today’s standard emergency light fixtures are most commonly a metal box and two lamps surface mounted on the wall. This type of installation might be considered visually unattractive and more prone to vandalism, increasing replace- ment and maintenance costs. Concealed emergency lights have been more complex to install and maintain, and their high cost places them outside the typical emergency lighting budgets. Both systems mentioned are typically installed above 80”, near the ceiling. The problem is that when smoke from a fire rises, it quickly renders the emergency light fixture ineffective and leaves building occupants with no clear path to safety. Application: SentryLight has reinvented emergency lighting to close the gap between standard emergency lights and concealed designs, making a reliable compact concealed design that is easy to install and maintain. Two models, De- fender Series 12V-36W and Defender Series RH-36W, provide code-meeting egress lighting for national fire codes. The Defender Series 6V-11W provides emergency lighting in residences, dorm rooms, hotel guest rooms and other locations where emergency lighting is desired. All models are UL924 and CDA approved, and are NYC approved (#47803). Recommendation: The Defender Series makes upgrading to a concealed design easy. With concealed emergency light- ing, the space looks cleaner and vandalism is greatly reduced. Invented by a firefighter, concealed emergency light that installs at ANY height. Designed to surpass building codes whether installed in the wall or ceiling, the design is unique in its ability to be installed at lower heights. Not only is this safer when smoke from a fire obscures lights at conventional heights (see below), but the high-impact resistant polycarbonate cover plate and the vandal resistant flush design greatly reduces maintenance costs.

Photos: Left: a hotel hallway while AC power is ON.

Center: Defender Series (installed at 36”) during an AC power failure.

Right: Simulation of the same hallway during an AC power failure and a fire. Due to the lower installation height the pathway remains brightly lit to ensure safe egress for occupants.

Installs in walls or ceiling in just minutes

In development for years, the Defender Series was painstakingly designed for reliability and ease of in-

stallation. For retrofits, simply remove the old fixture, use the template (supplied) to mark the opening in the drywall or ceiling tile, insert the unit in the opening and attach the three wires and connect the battery.
