Our origins: Olympic city with old fashioned mobility

36 km of urban highways were inaugurated around the city

and only one new station for the metro system

Our aim: education and revindication

In order to improve our cities and our lifes

• Communication• Conscientization • To increase social support to PT• Focus: citizens and press

• Study of public transport and mobility behavior

• Technical proposals to solve mobility problems based on PT solutions

• Focus: governments and press

Page 4: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 1: “More mobility, less traffic”. Public transport can move morepeople using less private cars with low occupancy, even in future with anautonomous cars.

Page 5: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSSAGE 2: “Less consumption and emissions, more electrification”.Due to higher occupancy, trains and buses need less energy than cars. Evenusing diesel buses, public transport saves energy. Nowadays, 65% of publictransport users in the region of Barcelona run over electric trains. Electricbuses are being incorporated too.

Page 6: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 3: “More health, less smoke”. Public transport reduces emissionsof urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transportensures less traffic and problems. In 2007, 3,500 people dead in Barcelonaurban area due to the pollution, which had in urban transit the main focus.

Page 7: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 4 “More road safety, against accidents”. Public transport has thebest ratio of mobility and road safety.Even with the recent improvements in road safety due to the car license bypoints, the risk of having an accident is 144 times higher by moto than bybus, and 13 times higher by car than by bus in Spanish non urban roads.

Page 8: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 5: “More care of the clime, against climatic change”. Climatechange is here and transportation sector is the first or second contributorin “developed countries”. Carbon footprint is lower in public transportationaccording to the fewer energy consumption.

Page 9: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 6: “More accessibility for everybody, less social exclusion”. Due to economical reasons, environment and needs of public space, cars are not for everybody. In Catalonia, only the half of people have car licenses: 54% of women, 42% of men. Car licensed people have not always a car available. When there is only a car for family, generally is used by man.

Page 10: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 7: “More jobs, and no relocatable”. Public transport and sharedfleets (bikes, cars, etc.) give more jobs by runned kilometer than carindustries. In addition to this, these jobs can not be moved to countrieswith lower workers rights as it’s usual in car industries.

Page 11: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 8: “Less public spending, more durability”. The worst energyconsumption is the land expansion associated to private cars. Parking facilitiesand road extensions consumes lots of public land and public budget. Railwaysand public transport infrastructures have a long durability and can allocatemore people.

Page 12: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 9: “More savings, less debt”. Using public transport ensures bigsavings to the citizens pockets. Car acquisition maintenance can representmore than 4,000 € /year across the life of the vehicle. Public transportreduces this budget to 1.000 €/year or less.

Page 13: Defending public transport, defending equality · Public transport reduces emissions of urban pollutants and noise. Even considering old buses, public transport ensures less traffic

MESSAGE 10: “More BBBB, less stress”. We don’t like to drive every day, we likeenjoy our time. For the moment, public transport is the only one system thatpermits use our travel time to reading, watching a movie or completing thispresentation ;)

This draws and campaign are possible thanks to the contribution of these publictransport operators:

15

The future?

Autonomous vehicles are seen as the future of transportation. They combine the best of private cars (door to door) and public transportation (not caring about driving or, if it is shared, parking).

How didn’t anybody invent it before? It sounds great.

Imagine it…You call it, it comes to you, it carries you and your partners where you want to go, directly. When you arrive, you don’t care about parking and you leave the vehicle without preocupations…

We claim for daily mobility instead of “Triple A”

AUTOPISTAS

(highways)

• Spain has the record of kilometers of highways in Europe.

• Only 21% of the network with direct payment.• All the citizens pay for free circulation of cars

and lorries. Government does not face the Eurovignette.

> 2.700 km

AEROPUERTOS

(Airports)

ALTA VELOCIDAD (AVE)

(High Speed Lines)

43 airpots in islands and peninsula> 14.000 km

• Spain and Romania manage their airports with a centralized model

• Lots of airports are not reliable• The airports are not connected with high

speed lines and competes with them for similar traffic to Madrid.

• Spain has the largest network of high speed railway lines in Europe.

• Beyond the logical sections, Government planned to connect all the peninsular provinces with Madrid, and doesn’t pay attention to non radial connections and daily mobility (regional and commuter trains).

Democracy also on highways!

We claim for painted bus lanes instead the private car lane of left side of highways.

HOV and bus lanes don’t need big infraestructures.
