COURSE LESSON PLAN 0840-0855

Stances/Movements/Blocks

INSTRUCTOR NOTE: KEEP A CLOSE WATCH ON STUDENTS FOR HORSEPLAY AND DIFFICULTY PERFORMING THE TECHNIQUES. ACT IMMEDIATELY IF EITHER IS OBSERVED TO CORRECT THEM. Stances Demonstrate the proper Field Interview (FI) stance and have the class mimic/show proficiency. Key points:

Discuss difference between dominant (weapon/OC) side and non-dominant) Feet at least shoulder width apart with the dominant foot slightly back Feet on the “rail road track” – feet and hips towards target/subject Knees slightly bent Hands above the waist Hands clear/fingers not interlocked Should not fall over is pushed from the side by an instructor

Demonstrate the proper Defensive stance and have the class show mimic/show proficiency. Key points:

Base/foot positions widens Hands move up to protect the face Elbows pointing down Center of gravity lowers Hands clear/fingers not interlocked Should not fall over is pushed from the side by an instructor

Movements & Side Stepping Demonstrate proper movement FORWARD, BACK, LEFT & RIGHT and have the class mimic/show proficiency. Key points:

Lead foot is the foot that is in the position of your desired direction (i.e. movement forward required FORWARD foot to move first)

Lead foot takes a comfortable step, other foot re-establishes base DO NOT CROSS FEET Look out for narrowing of stance Re-adjust if you feel too narrow, should feel stable Side stepping is to get off of the subject’s center line

COURSE LESSON PLAN 1040-1115

Push Off Escape/Gable Grip (Ground)

Close (tested technique) Key points:

Attacker is in officer’s open guard Trap attacking hands Shrimp backwards in order to create enough distance to get officer’s feet placed on

attacker’s hip joints Pull back on attacking hands to get attacker off balance Push forward with both hands and feet to propel attacker forward If enough distance is created, get up from base, otherwise remain in base in a defensive

posture, call for back up

Hug with Gable Grip Demonstrate the technique for Hug with Gable Grip and have the class mimic/show proficiency. Key points:

Fingers together including thumb “Praying hands”, turned to the side and grasp

Instructors test students on techniques up to this point. **Instructors Note: Prior to breaking for lunch, ask check with students for any injuries**

Safety reminder and Warm up/stretching

Brief safety review/reminder. Have slide with key safety points on screen as a reminder during warm up. Brief calisthenics/stretching:

Walking/Jogging (warm up) Head to toe stretching (neck, shoulders, arms, abs, legs) Watch the students as they warm up for any signs of physical injuries or limitations (i.e.

limping, grabbing a joint or limb in pain, facial expression of pain)

PowerPoint slides with safety admonition and rules for the day.

COURSE LESSON PLAN 1630-1700

Technique Test #2 Evaluations

Instructors test students on techniques up to this point. The same instructors will test the same student as before. If this is not possible (i.e. instructor had to leave) it will be noted on the student test sheet in the comments section which techniques each instructor tested.

Upon completion, have students complete evaluation **Instructors Note: Check with students for any injuries before ending the class**
