Forests are one of the most valuable eco-systems in the world, containing over 60 percent of the world's biodiversity. Forests provide people with plants that they can eat and use to make medicine. Forests also help to control the planet’s climate.

Deforestation is the destruction of forested areas

About half of the tropical forests, between 750 to 800 million hectares of the original 1.5 to 1.6 billion hectares that once covered the planet have been destroyed.

Unless a dramatic change is made soon, by 2030 only twenty percent of the world’s tropical forests will remain. Eighty percent will be lost and with them hundreds of thousands of species.

There are many causes of deforestation including, slash-and-burn, urban development, acid rain, and wildfires. Many forests are destroyed for logging or to create farm land.

eforestation has many affects on us like:

)        less oxygen

)      less food

We can save our  forests by cutting our supply down on wood and paper products and recycling.
