PurposeIndividualization and flexibility are features of the program leading to thedegree of Bachelor of University Studies. The program is designed forgoal-directed, motivated, and mature students who find that the presentdegree programs (majors) at the University will not enable them to attaintheir educational objectives. The Bachelor of University Studies degreeprogram allows a student to use the total resources of the Universityavailable to accomplish unique educational objectives. The program mayor may not prepare a student for a particular occupation or for entry into aprofessional school.
Degree Requirements1. All students who intend to present a program for the University
Studies degree should be enrolled in one of the colleges of theUniversity or the Office of University College Advising.
2. The study plan must include no fewer than 40 upper-divisionsemester credit hours which are selected from two or moredisciplines and which in their aggregate comprise a rationalcombination of concepts and skills.
3. The study plan must meet all general education requirements of theUniversity and the college of enrollment.
4. A minimum of 120 semester credit hours shall be required forgranting the degree.
ProcedureStudents who believe their educational objectives can best be fulfilledthrough a Bachelor of University Studies degree program will beresponsible for complying with the following procedures:

PurposeThe bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies is a four-year degreeplan for students who find that current University degree programswill not allow them to meet their educational objectives and who wishto tailor course choices to meet individual goals. The program allowsstudents to prepare for professional careers that require extensiveknowledge in a broad array of subjects. The multidisciplinary programallows students to focus on two or three areas of study that are selectedby the student.
Degree Requirements1. The student must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours of
which at least 40 hours must be upper-division.2. The major requires two or three areas of concentration. If the student
selects two areas of concentration, each area will include at least27 hours of coursework; for three areas of concentration, each areawill include at least 18 hours of coursework. Of the 54 hours ofconcentration, at least 27 hours must be upper-division. A coursemay not be used to fulfill the requirements of more than one area ofconcentration. The remaining coursework, to total at least 120 hours,may be selected from different disciplines.
3. Areas of concentration may include coursework from therequirements for a minor or certificate or a group of related coursesapproved by a departmental representative (faculty member oradvisor). A study plan may use 18 hours of ‘major’ courses from anAA, AS or AAS degree to fulfill one of three areas of concentration.The other two areas of concentration will include at least 27 hours ofupper-division coursework.
4. All students who intend to present a program for multidisciplinarystudies must enroll in one of the colleges of the University (select oneof the colleges responsible for an area of concentration).
5. The study plan must meet all General Education requirements of theUniversity and the college of enrollment.
6. A multidisciplinary studies faculty advisory committee will overseeprogram quality and conduct an annual curriculum review.
