About the Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts

Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts (DFVA) was

formed in 1980 with the mission of emphasizing artistic

fundamentals through scholarships to Delaware students

and the professional development of its Membership.

Our mission is largely, but not exclusively, achieved by:

a) Maintaining and growing an endowment for

scholarships, as well as organizing exhibition and

education opportunities, for the widest possible range of

students throughout the state regardless of race, sex,

ethnicity, gender, economic background or sexual

orientation.

b) Cultivating an artist membership through a

progressing process of education, critique, jury and sales

opportunities.

Our History

The Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts was

formed out of a desire to provide opportunities

that would benefit artists, both aspiring and

seasoned, in numerous ways.

In 1980 a small group of local artists joined

together and the DFVA was established.

Through their talents and efforts they sought to

provide encouragement for aspiring young

artists in the form of scholarships for graduating

Delaware high school students going on to art

colleges. In addition they designed programs

dedicated to the traditional time honored

teachings that have produced the artwork so

revered today.

As the DFVA has grown so have our programs;

both for the Delaware High School students as

well as for the adult artist population. Today we

have about 150 members comprised of artists,

patrons and educators.

SCHOLARSHIPS

About Our Scholarship Program

The Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts

partners with the nationally acclaimed

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition

to grant scholarships to college-bound

Delaware high school students majoring in

the Arts, and who exhibit excellence in the

art fundamentals of drawing or painting.

Gold-Key award winners from the Scholastic

Art & Writing Awards competition will be

invited to apply for our scholarship.

The 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

opens for submissions in September 2020.

2021 Planned Scholarship Awards

1st Prize: $2,500 Scholarship

2nd Prize: $1,500 Scholarship

3rd Prize: $1,000 Scholarship

OUR ART SHOW

Each year we hold three art shows featuring the work of

outstanding local artists. A portion of the proceeds of

these shows benefits our Scholarship Fund for college

bound students majoring in the arts.

This year, we have decided to hold our art show online!

Our show features 46 artists and almost 400 works of

original art for your viewing pleasure and consideration.

Your purchases directly help us to support our

Scholarship Fund for college bound students majoring

in the arts.

We hope you’ll take the opportunity to join us as we

exhibit our art for the benefit of our local and future

artists! Thank you!
