Emerging Technology - What Do We Do?Emerging Technology - What Do We Do?

Innovation/collaborations in technologies that we hope garner broad industry adoption in 12 -18 month timeframe

Our technology initiatives refined based on the marketplace & evolution of web technologies

Voice of the Customer- early & direct customer engagements (POCs) to iterate on both the technology & business value

Top 18 Indicators

18. Jugular Venous Distention Indicator

17. Paid by Medicaid Indicator16. Immunity Disorder Disease Indicator15. Cardiac Rehab Admit Diagnosis with CHF Indicator14. Lack of Emotion Support Indicator13. Self COPD Moderate Limit Health History Indicator12. With Genitourinary System & Endocrine Disorders11. Heart Failure History10. High BNP Indicator9. Low Hemoglobin Indicator8. Low Sodium Level Indicator7. Assisted Living (NLP only)6. High Cholesterol History5. Presence of Blood Diseases in Diagnosis History

4. High Blood Pressure Health History3. Self Alcohol / Drug Use Indicator (Cerner + NLP)2. Heart Attack History1. Heart Disease History

New Insights Uncovered by Combining Content and Predictive Analytics

•LVEF and Smoking are significant indicators of CHF but not readmissions

•Assisted Living and Drug and Alcohol Abuse emerged as key predictors (only found in unstructured data)

Big Data For Crime FightingBig Data For Crime FightingMemphis Police Department - Blue CRUSH (Criminal Reduction Utilizing Statistical History) crime-fighting methodology

Enables rich picture of the various circumstances surrounding a particular crime:

•Where did it occur?

•What was the weather?

•What was the weather the day or week before?

•Did the crime take place over a three-day weekend?

•Was there a payday for government workers?

•Was there a gun show at the local convention center?

•Was there a recruitment day at a local university?

Lessons We’re LearningLessons We’re LearningShared nothing, stateless scale out cloud fabrics is not a suggestion of behavior, it’s enforced

Economic equation flips from platform-centric integration being the most valuable asset to application-centric•Unbundling: When an app is deployed, the correct version of the runtime, frameworks, etc are deployed•Ability to dynamically retrieve the “right” versions of assets from code repositories a critical factor

Cloud-based economics are drastically better for this emerging class of applications

Small teams leveraging born on the cloud architectures delivers

Mixing fabric-based services & external services will introduce additional considerations & complexity – work in progress understanding

Loosely coupled architectures work from teamwork perspective – few coordination/status meetings, etc..
