Deluge Systems
Deluge systems are fixed fire protection systems with open discharge devicessystems with open discharge devices.
The water supply is held back by a deluge valve, which is controlled by a g , yrelease system.
When the release system operates, the y pdeluge valve opens and water discharges from every outlet connected to the sprinkler piping.

Deluge Systems
Deluge systems are installed in areas or hazards that require total floodinghazards that require total flooding.
Examples of where deluge systems are installed:
• Aircraft Hangars• Petro-chemical facilities• Oil filled transformers• Coal conveyors• Bulk storage of flammable/combustible• liquids• Stage Prosceniums• Engine Test Rooms

Deluge Valves
D l l d iDeluge valves are used in deluge systems and pre-action systems.
Viking deluge valves have one moving part, which is the clapperclapper.
Viking produces (2) styles of deluge valves a straightdeluge valves, a straight through Model F-1 and anangle style, a Model E-1.
Their operation is the same.
Both valves are listed and

Deluge System Releases
Release SystemsyThere are (3) primary release systemsThat control Deluge Systems:g y

Water will discharge through allthe outlets on the system piping. Once the PORV is activated, waterwill no longer discharge throughthe release line because the PORVdrains priming pressure from the
