About the Project:

Removal of asbestos insulation board liningsfrom warm air heating risers to two residential

tower blocks.

Deconstruct were appointed to carry out arefurbishment and demolition asbestos survey of the Royal Court Estate in Laindon.

Utilising the findings of the asbestos survey,Deconstruct carried out a complete soft strip of the two tower blocks, followed by the removal of asbestos containing materials.

The asbestos was predominantly in the form of insulation boarding to warm air heating risers and transom panels above doors. Asbestos was also present within the floor tiles.

Project Challenges:

The asbestos insulation board risers were located within the central core of each flat.

The surrounding masonry walls and services had to be carefully removed, so as not to disturb the asbestos.

A timber framed polythene tented enclosurewas constructed around each section of riser,necessitating the construction of approximately 100 separate enclosures.

With the lifts having previously been decommissioned, all plant, equipment andwaste had to be manually transferred betweenwork areas.
