Students will critically examine varioussocieties around the world using basic culturalconcepts such as language, food production,economics, kinship, art, religion, and magic.The class is designed to foster a pluralistic viewof the world, teach introductoryanthropological concepts, and strengthencritical thinking skills. College level reading isstrongly advised for success in the course. 3 Units (AA/AS; Citrus D2; CSU; UC; IGETC 4A; CSUGED1; CSUGE D5)

COURSES

Senya Lubisich holds her Ph.D.in French History, with teachingfields in world history andhumanities. She has lived inParis and traveled extensivelyand is eager to share in thestudy abroad experience withstudents. She is an activemember of her community,

serving as chair of the Historic Preservation Commissionand running a non-profit that advocates for historicplaygrounds. She has helped lead programs to Florenceand Kyoto and is delighted to take students to Paris.

Dr. Jennifer Miller-Thayerearned her Ph.D. from UCRiverside as a four-fieldtrained anthropologist,focusing on cultural andmedical subfields, withtraining and experience inapplied anthropology. Sheteaches anthropology

courses that help students learn about other cultures, aswell as, their own culture. As an anthropologist she hasvaluable travel experience and perspectives that can helpstudents adjust to a new cultural environment. Sherecently instructed students abroad during Citrus’ 2020winter in Costa Rica program. Dr. Miller-Thayer is lookingforward to incorporating French culture in her course toprovide students with firsthand experience ofanthropology while living abroad.

Students must enroll in a minimum of 3 units. Online coursesare not recommended while studying in Paris.

Students will critically examine various societiesaround the world using basic cultural concepts such as marriage, family, art, foodproduction, political organization, and religion.The class is designed to foster a pluralistic viewof the world,teach introductory anthropologicalconcepts, and strengthen critical thinking.College level reading is strongly advised forsuccess in the course. Students are expected towork and participate at an honors level whichincludes strong critical thinking skills, thoroughanalysis of anthropological readings,presentation and leadership skills demonstratedthrough class participation/ presentation, andservice learning in the community. 3 Units (AA/AS; Citrus D2; CSU; UC; IGETC 4A; CSUGED1; CSUGE D5)
