Bon Secours Hospital Cork is not only Ireland’s largest private hospital,but one of the largest private hospitals in Europe. Established in 1915,the Hospital has over 300 beds, employs over 1000 staff and admitsapproximately 35,000 patients per annum. It is an acute general hospitalproviding an extensive range of medical and surgical specialties for bothadults and children including; Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopaedics,Gastroenterology and General Surgery.

The Hospital caters for urgent admissions from GPs in both medicine andsurgery and has recently opened a new Acute Medical Assessment Unit.The Hospital has a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unitand a High Dependency Unit.

The Hospital is soon to develop Radiotherapy services to complete thefull range of cancer services. All services are consultant delivered,supported by NCHDs, specialist nursing staff and a broad range of healthand social care professionals.

Bon Secours Hospital Cork is a teaching hospital of UCC, thereby makinga significant contribution to undergraduate teaching in medicine andnursing. The Hospital is proud to hold many quality accreditationsincluding; JCI, INAB and ESMO (the European Society for MedicalOncology accreditation).

The Medical Assessment Unit (M.A.U.) (including Urology conditions) allows patients to be seen and assessed in a timely manner by aConsultant dedicated to the Unit. It has been developed to provide the following:

☛ Rapid Access to Consultant opinion☛ Same day access to tests for patients with acute medical complaints☛ Prompt admission arranged to the hospital where necessary

The Medical Insurance Companies do not cover the MAU costs and therefore the following fees are applied:☛ For patients treated and discharged from the MAU:

The overall fee depends on the type and number of diagnostic tests required but is subject to a minimum fee of €125 and amaximum fee of €495 regardless of the number of tests. The average fee to date has been €255.

☛ For patients admitted to the Hospital from the MAU:The only cost is an MAU consultation fee of €50.

The Medical Oncology Department administers a full range of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, clinical trials andpalliative care. All cancer diagnoses are discussed at a weekly Multidisciplinary team meeting by medical consultants, oncologists,surgeons, radiologists and pathologists, house doctors & nurses. Our goal is to provide the most modern therapy in a caring andsupportive out-patient and in-patient environment. On an annual basis, patients are recruited to therapeutic and biomarker trials inoncology, which offers patients access to novel treatments.

The Medical Oncology Department is designated as a centre of integrated Oncology and Palliative care by the European Society forMedical Oncology (ESMO). This accreditation is renewed every three years.

Bon Secours Hospital – Advanced Medicine Exceptional Care

Our Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)is a modern, seven-bed purpose built facility. Your GP can refer you to our MAU for rapid

access to a consultant provided service and for a wide range of complaints. We

accept patients over 16 years of age.

You will be seen without delay and any tests required will be organised for you

while you are in the MAU.

If admission to the hospital is necessary thiswill be arranged without delay. If you are sent

home, arrangements for any follow up testsor appointments will be made for you. TheMAU Consultant will complete a letter for

your GP which you should collect atreception before leaving the unit.

j The initial consultation fee for patientsattending the MAU is €125; the average fee is€255 (including various tests) and themaximum amount payable is €495

j However, if you are admitted following MAUtreatment all but the initial fee of €50 will bewaived

j Your admission to hospital following MAUtreatment may be covered by your medicalinsurance, depending on your plan

j If you are discharged home from our MAU youwill be required to pay your bill before leaving
