MESSAGE FROM THE HOD

The MBA course offered by the PG Department of MSRCASC is affiliated to Bangalore

University, which is one of the largest and reputed universities in India. The course is

recognized by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and is re-accredited

with “A” by NAAC.

The syllabus is designed and prescribed by Bangalore University and offers dual

specialization to the students in the areas of Marketing, Finance and HR, in order to

help students obtain jobs in more than one area of specialization. On completion of

two semesters, the student is expected to spend around 6 – 8 weeks with companies,

as an “Intern” and get practical exposure to industry, its systems and processes.

During the fourth semester, the student has to complete his project work / thesis in

any area of specialization, to enable him to get much needed practical exposure to

Industry.

Besides the formal curriculum of Bangalore University, MSRCASC believes in

imparting holistic education, with emphasis on ethics and values and on enhancing

the employability of the students. Several soft skill programs are offered to the

students, in addition to Industry visits, outbound training programmes. Students are

encouraged to get involved in CSR initiatives, with focus on saving our Environment

and being socially responsible. Hard work, Integrity, professionalism and commitment

are emphasized at every stage.

MBA DEPARTMENT

VISION

To provide “holistic” education, with emphasis on Ethics

and Values to all our students, with a view to making them

responsible, employable and productive citizens of this

country.

MISSION

To create a conducive learning environment for both

students and faculty, with focus on applied research and

to build up the brand of the PG Department of MSRCASC

among the corporate world, as well as among the society

at large, with a view to attracting good quality students for

our MBA course.

GOAL

To deliver high quality education, with emphasis on

discipline.To facilitate learning among students, rather

than on traditional teaching. To help students to apply the

knowledge acquired to real life situations in their lives, as

well as in the Corporate world.

OBJECTIVES

To proactively help students become employable by

providing essential soft skills training, besides ensuring

high quality of academic inputs through faculty

development programmes.

1. INTRODUCTION

MBA department was started in our institution in 2004. The course is a two

year programme. The intake per year is 60 students.

MBA (CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM) (MBA-CBCS–2014–15 ONWARDS)

1.1 THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

A graduate degree under 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 pattern under any discipline

securing at least 50% marks in aggregate including languages from a

recognized University in India or abroad.

Honors degree under 10+2+4 pattern from a recognized university under

UGC Act having at least 50% marks in aggregate including languages.

Candidates who have passed bachelor / master degree through

correspondence / Open University system from this university or from any

other university recognized by law are exempted from 10+2 pattern. The

duration of the degrees must be three and two years respectively.

Candidates who pass bachelor/master degree in any university system in

single sitting pattern are not eligible.

In case of SC/ST/Cat I candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% in the

aggregate of marks obtained.

All admissions to CBSMS and affiliated colleges will be made through an

entrance test conducted by appropriate body as approved by Government of

Karnataka and State Level Counseling based on Rank Merit and the

reservation rules based on the seat matrix as announced by the

Government of Karnataka from time to time.

1.2 DURATION OF THECOURSE

The duration of the MBA program shall extend over4semesters (two

academic years) of 16 weeks or more each with a minimum of 90 actual

working days of instruction in each semester and 2 to3 weeks

of examinations.

1.3 MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The medium of instruction for all subjects and examination shall be English

only.

1.4 MINIMUM CREDITS AND MAXIMUM CREDITS

There shall be three categories of courses viz.,Core and Compulsory Course,

Specialization Course and Open Elective Course/Soft Core Course. The

Open Electives are the University approved Courses offered by other

Departments of Bangalore University

The credits for each of Compulsory Course and specialization course may

vary from 2 to 4 credits. Incase of open electives course, each paper shall be

of 3 credits. A student is required to take one open elective course in III

Semester

The course is spread over four semesters in a two year period, as per the

norms of Bangalore University. Each semester is for a period of five months.

The first semester provides the foundation to Management and the second

semester introduces the functional areas of Management. At the end of the

second semester, students are to undergo a four week internship in an

organization and submit a report. The third and fourth semester focus on

elective courses. The program offers a wide choice to the students with

functional / sectoral areas of specialization to choose from. In addition to this,

we are providing to the students several soft skill programmes and Value

Added courses. A departmental Bi-Annual Newsletter is published every year.

The department has published the first issue of its Management Research

Journal M. S. R Journal of Management – A Journal of Applied Research,

with an ISSN number - 2321-7383 in June 2013.Subsequent issues have

been published with valuable contributions from authors. National research

conferences have been organized by the MBA department for academicians

and management students. It has plans in the forthcoming year to conduct

Seminars, MDPs and FDP programmes.

Several of our students, who have passed out earlier are working in

organizations like HSBC, E&Y, ANZ Company, HLL, India bulls, HDFC Bank,

Thomson Reuters, IBM Daksh, Infosys, Wipro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ocwen

Finance, Northern Trust, IBM, TALLY, Greet Finance, 99 Acres.com, Federal

Bank and several other prominent organizations. Some of our students are

also successful entrepreneurs.

6. POLICIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

a) Attendance

Each paper shall be taken for the purpose of calculating attendance.

As prescribed by the University, students are required to attend not less than

75% of the classes, in each subject in order to be eligible to appear for the

university examinations. For Students, whose attendance is below the above

norms, hall tickets/admit card will not be issued and they will not be allowed to

appear for the university examinations

Five marks in Internal Assessment shall be awarded on the percentage of

attendance as an incentive to the student for regularity in attendance.

Attendance of the students shall be taken into consideration from the date of

their admission, as per university guidelines.

Students, who are in need of leave, should get the prior approval from

proctor/class coordinator and HOD/Proctor.

Only students with a minimum of 75% attendance will be allowed to represent

the college / department in co-curricular activities like fests etc. However, IV

semester students will be allowed to attend “Placement Interviews” provided

they give a request within a day, which is duly authenticated by the

Placement Officer.

b) Internal Assessment

Each of the course would have two components–the First being Internal

Assessment Marks and Second being Semester end exams. The Internal

Assessment (IA) is based on the continuous internal assessment.

Each paper will carry 100 marks of which 30 marks for Internal Assessment and

remaining 70 marks for written examination to be held at the end of each semester.

The duration of the written examination for each paper shall be 3 hours.

c) Proctor System

One proctor for every 10 students will be allotted during the 2 years of his /

her study in the college. The department is strictly following the proctor

system.

Letters will be sent to the parents/ guardian twice in a semester to inform

about the students’ performance and attendance.

Phone calls may also be made to the parents/ guardians by the proctors to

inform about the students behavior, if the situation warrants. d) Department Library

The MBA department has a separate library and students should make use

of the same. E-library facility is available in the department.

e) Computer Lab

The MBA department has a well-equipped computer lab.

The computers in the lab should be used exclusively for their course related

matters and not for social networking websites. If students are found browsing

social networking or other prohibited websites, they are liable to be

suspended/dismissed, as per the decision taken by HOD/Principal.

Students will be held responsible for any damage/ breakage of the equipment

in the computer lab.

Students should not personalize the computer settings and download games,

music, etc.

f) Internship and Dissertation

As per Bangalore university norms, all students are suppose to do their

Internship and Dissertation during their 2nd semester and 4rd semester,

respectively.

g) Final Examinations

There shall be a University examination at the end of each semester in the

prescribed papers which carries 70 marks each.(Online examination might

be introduced subject to approval of appropriate bodies of Bangalore

University in the course of present scheme.)

Norms

Use of mobiles phones, scientific calculators or any mathematical or

electronically devices are strictly prohibited in the examination hall.

Visually / verbally receiving / giving information in the examination hall is a

form of unauthorized assistance and considered as a malpractice. Such

students will be expelled and their admission will be cancelled.

Students should enter the examination hall, 15 minutes prior to the

examination.

Students should carry their ID cards and Hall tickets, till they complete their

examinations.

h) Classification of Successful Candidates: Semester wise

The Grade Point Average (GPA) in a Semester and the Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA) at the end of fourth semester shall be computed as follows:

i) COMPUTATION OF GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA):

The grade points(GP) in a course shall be assigned based on the basis of actual marks

scored in that course as per the table below. They shall be generally percentages divided

by 10.The Grade Point Weights(GPW) shall then be calculated as the product of the

grade points earned in the course and the credits for the course. The total GPW for a

semester is obtained by adding the GPW of all the courses of the semester.

7. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STUDENTS

Students are expected to be regular to the college and attend all classes and are expected to be on time. Classes will be conducted from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm on all working days, normally.

All students must carry their ID card, on all working days. Lost ID card will be replaced on payment of Rs 200/-

Complete uniform is compulsory on all working days except Wednesday and Saturday, as per our dress code norms. On these two days, students may wear formal clothes.

Students must not loiter in the corridors and make noise during class hours

Students are advised to go through the various magazines, journals, business newspapers, etc., which is available in the library to acquire knowledge and update themselves.

Students shall attend all the seminars, workshops, project guidance, Internship, Training programmes and the like, as arranged by the Institution.

Attendance to all tests / examinations conducted from time to time is compulsory and performance should be at the satisfactory level.

Students are advised to actively participate and assist the faculty members in the conduct of various academic and co-curricular activities.

Students are expected to be honest, behave with dignity and treat others with respect and courtesy. This includes the use of appropriate language and actions.

Ragging is strictly prohibited and students indulging in ragging will be expelled from the college.

Compliance with all college rules and following all university guidelines is a must.

Students are expected to respond in a respectful manner to all faculty while inside the college premises and more so when participating in college-sponsored activities.

Students are expected to protect all college property. Vandalism will invite strict disciplinary action and fines.

For any clarification on the admission, examination process, scholarship, etc. facilitating guidance will be given at the college office.

The use of mobiles is strictly banned in the college premises. Contravention of this rule will invite the confiscation of mobiles, which will not be returned.

Any student found responsible of any misconduct will invite disciplinary action, including suspension / expulsion.

8. INSTRUCTIONS TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

All parents / guardians are kindly advised to provide their contact details like

postal address, mobile numbers, landline, details of local guardian (if

applicable) to the Management at the time of the student’s admission and to

let us know, whenever there is any change in any of the above details.

Details about the student’s attendance, behavior and performance in internal

tests are normally communicated to the parents twice during each semester.

Parents are requested to kindly take this seriously and meet the proctor and /

or HOD periodically, so that corrective action can be taken, well in time before

it is too late.

9. RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY

The department has to its credit, faculty with good academic and research

background. The department is continuously rendering consultancy in social

sciences research to various research scholars and students of the other

department and other institutions. This is a continuous and ongoing process,

which enriches the knowledge of the faculty and teaches the students new

and current industry practices’’.

10. DEPARTMENTAL SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Institutional Social Responsibility

The campus is equipped with waste management systems, for disposal of

old books, unused writing materialsetc to the needy.

Rain water harvesting system has been installed.

Proposal for Solar Powered Security Lamps and Bio-gas plant has been

approved & the same will be installed as early as possible.

Awareness is being created in students about civic sense and on first-aid

care during emergencies.

11. INTER DEPARTMENTAL COLLABORATION

The department has collaboration with the Commerce Department, Computer

Application Department and Political Science Department to share and

exchange knowledge for the benefit of the students. We are trying to work on

various other projects with other departments.

12. BEST PRACTICES

The departmental best practices include:

Lectures using multimedia devices for presentations and demonstrating

case studies.

Class activities are conducted to co-relate concepts with industry practices

for better understanding

Case studies on current issues / past trends are discussed, as a part of the

academic activity

Workshops are conducted for the students in order to have exposure to

presentation skills and showcase their subject knowledge better

Role plays are conducted as a part of the activity to understand the concepts

better.

Using teaching and learning process which are activity based and thought

provoking and by conducting presentations (poster and power point), quiz

competitions, group discussions on related topics and activities, students are

made “Business Ready”.

Frequent Guest Lectures are organized

Organize Management Fests and also participate in other inter Collegiate Management Fests

Assist the students to write research papers and get them published in

Academic Journals.

Organize Industrial visits, as a part of the curriculum.

Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) are conducted to upgrade the

knowledge base of faculty.

Active proctor system is implemented.

Acknowledgement of student achievements in various fields

(academics, sports, cultural, etc).

Effective monitoring/disciplinary committee is in place.

Every semester, new books and new editions are procured for the library for

fulfilling the students and faculty requirements.

Availability of computer laboratory, with internet connection. Making this a WI-

FI enabled campus is one of our goals.
