The Duck Industry Performance Report presents the industry situation in terms of inventory by farm type, age classification; volume of production; supply and disposition, and; monthly average farmgate, wholesale and retail prices.

The Livestock and Poultry data system of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) is supported by two (2) major surveys namely:

1) The Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) which covers one (1) replicate of the Palay and Corn Production Survey (PCPS) consisting of 9,700 sample households in 673 sample barangays nationwide; and

2) The Commercial Livestock and Poultry Survey (CLPS)

which covers around 593 sample duck farms as of January 2012 updated list. A duck farm is considered commercial when it has a farm capacity of at least 100 birds regardless of age.

Both surveys for swine are simultaneously conducted semi-annually in all provinces.

INVENTORY

Duck inventory in 2013 stood at 10.14 million birds, or 1.25 percent higher than last year’s headcount. Backyard farm population was estimated at 7.34 million birds, posting a growth of 0.18 percent. Inventory in commercial farms was 2.79 million birds or 4.15 percent more than the 2012 inventory. The growth was attributed to the increase in the number of raisers. Around 72 percent of the total duck population were raised in backyard farms and the rest in commercial farms.

Laying flock which

accounted for around 46.27 percent of the total duck population increased by 4.12 percent against last year's inventory. Other classifications of duck were growing flock and day old chicks which shared 39.42 percent and 14.31, percent, respectively.
