Gentlemen:
: In compliance with :the requirements of Section 65.5 of theAgri9~tura1 Code, we herewith submit th~ 1962 Agriculture Crop:Report for Stanislaus County.
: In this report are the bearing and nonbearing acreages ofall of our ,permanent crops. These acreage figures are the resultspf the completely new survey which was made during 1961. The'figures
presented include new plantings and pullouts as of Januaryi,. 1963., .'
" We would like to state, the figures used in this reportrepresent gross income from production and ~ ~ ~ .:!:~~ tothe producer. To get the net income~ the cost of producing andpacking must be deducted.
It will be noted in this report the largest single item isfor market milk, which had a gross income value of $17,700,000.We have made every attempt to make this report as accurate aspossible.
; We wish to express our appreciation for the cooperation andassistance of various agencies such as irrigation districts,cooperatives, local business concerns, producers and others whohave made this report possible. FIELD CROPS
.Alfalfa. --Acreage declined again a small amount 0 Yields and prices
were both somewhat better resulting in a larger gross income. Aphids posed noreal proble~ and at the end Qf' the season hay prices were on the upgrade.
Ery B~~~ ~ ~ All beans were down in gross inc ome 0 Blackeyes weredown the most in acreage but were slightly better price wise 0 L~s were upslightly in acreage but down in price. Other beans were milch the saIile in yieldand acreage but down enough in price to result in a lower incomeo
Grain --Wheat and oats were down in acreage. Yield and prices arefluctuating:- Other grains up in acreage. Milo and rice were up considerablyin acreage. Prices were somewhat better. Overall gross was about the same.
Field Corn --Shell corn ~t lowest production in years. Prices werebetter, but gross income doWIlo Silage com continues to increase iri incomeoAcreage re~ains fairly steady but yields and prices a little better.
Cotton --A small item but production somewhat better.creased slightly as well as gross income~

Irrigated Pasture A small decrease in acreage due to shift of landto otheruseo
Sugar Beets --Acreage decreased almost 25%. Yields and prices werea little better resulting in only a slight loss in gross income~

SEED PRODUCTION
Alfalfa --Certified acreage made a small gain in acreage. Productionnearly the same as in 1961. Prices were somewhat better resulting in a Smallincrease in gross income. Common alfalfa including uncertified varieties de-creased in acre9-ge. Prices were up a little nth overall gross income up some.
Peas' --Pea acreage about the same. Yields were down.'l;'e~ulting-fii a considerable decrease in gross income.
Prices stable
Red Clover --Acreage decreased again, ~elds were down some and pricesa little better. Overall gross income down some.

LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY
Beef Cattle -.:. The industry cpntinues to show a steady increase.Invent,orY ,up slightly. Prices and pro~uction both favorable. ..,
Swine --A slight increase each year, with stab'.:!.e prices resultingin a small~crease in gr~ss income. .

, ~~ --Sheep numbers continue to decrease. Prices were consider-ably better in 1962' resulting in an increase in gross income. ,-'r
L 1ijorses and Mules --Horse number~,including ponies, show ~ small
steady increase. Prices are a little more favorable resulting in a small...~ncrease ~n gross ~ncome.,
DairYing --Milk cow inventory continues to dec'rease slightly.This is due to Gra4e B producers going out of. production. Market milkcontinues on the increase~ This,is the largest'single item of. income f.orthe year 1962.
