    PHASED-IN RETURN OF STUDENTS

    Abridged notice…..

    It is clear that the global threat of COVID-19

    continues to be with us, thus requiring the University

    to adopt an approach of abundant caution in

    returning students to limited campus activities. This

    approach aims to ensure that many of the measures

    to help minimise the health risks remain in place for

    the protection of our students, staff and their

    families. The University will thus be implementing

    a staggered approach to phase-in the re-opening of

    limited on-campus academic activities and related

    return of registered students, to campus and/or

    residences.

    Restrictions regarding COVID-19 and limited

    access to campuses is still applicable. Masters and

    PhD students who need access to laboratories on

    campus to complete research will be allowed access.

    Registration for Master of Medicine degree

    (MMed Coursework Masters) opens 8 February.

    A registration deposit of R4000 should be paid

    together with outstanding fees for last year in order

    to obtain financial clearance for registration.

    International students should liaise with Mr Paseka

    Nkoesa from the Student Funding to obtain financial

    clearance. Documents for International clearance

    must be emailed to Ms Thuli Ngcobo.

    OPENING OF UKZN LIBRARIES

    The Main Libraries on all campuses and the Law

    Libraries on Howard College and PMB campuses

    will open on weekdays from 1st February 2021.

    Mondays/Wednesday/Fridays: Between 09:00 and

    15:00 for students and staff who are permitted to

    return to campus. The libraries will close between

    12:00 and 13:00 for sanitization.

    No entry without student/staff card and mask.

    No group gatherings or study rooms.

    Demarcated areas will be regularly monitored.

    FMM presentations have to be scored/rated. Whilst

    the Zoom meeting is taking place, the moderator

    must inform five consultants that they will be rating

    the presentation. Moderators must then inform

    Camy immediately after the meeting who to contact.

    SASA 2021 CONGRESS CANCELLED

    The SASA 2021 calendar is being planned to make

    sure there are ample opportunities to safely get

    together socially and professionally.

    Congress 2022 will be hosted by the KZN branch of

    SASA. We are confident that the 2022 programme

    will more than make up for the disappointment of the

    postponement. SASA are investigating innovative

    platforms, an exciting, engaging programme, guest

    speakers, fantastic new ways (alongside the old) for

    presentations, and creative networking possibilities.

    PART II REFRESHER COURSE - 2021

    Dates: 15 – 19 November

    The Wits Department will be running 5 full day

    “Updates” on a monthly basis, on Saturdays,

    between March and July on a virtual platform open

    to all Part 2 candidates nationwide, at a minimal cost.

    There will be no notes, registrars will have to take

    notes themselves. A Paeds update will not be held

    and all second semester candidates are encouraged to

    attend the virtual PACSA meeting.
