DepartmentofBiologicalSciencesOverview:OnlineMastersforScienceEducatorsTheDepartmentofBiologicalSciencesispleasedtoofferanonline,non-thesisMasterofBiologicalSciencesforscienceeducatorsinterestedinbiologicalsciences.Ourstudentsincludeteachersatalllevels,aswellasscientistsfrommuseums,fieldstationsandresearchlaboratories.Thisprogramisfullyinadistance-learningformatandlecturesareavailable24/7.
Weoffertwoacademicpathstoaccommodateyourneeds:oneforadvancedstudentsnotseekingadditionaldegrees,andoneforstudentswishingtoattainanon-thesisMastersinBiologicalSciencesdegree.
AdvancedStudentStatus(non-degree-seeking):Admissiontothenon-degreecategoryisrestrictedprimarilytothosewhomaybenefitprofessionallyfromadditionalstudyatthegraduatelevel.Forexample,currentprimary,middlegradesandsecondaryeducationteacherswishingtogainrecertificationmostcommonlyapplyasnon-degree-seekingstudents.Regardlessofthestudent’sreasonforapplyingnon-degree,inallcasesthenon-degreestudentmustreceivepermissionfromtheprogramcoordinatororthedepartmentchairbeforeenrollinginanygraduatecourse.PleasenotethatifyouhavebeenpreviouslyenrolledatClemsonanytimeinthepastsixyearsasanon-degreestudentinthesameareayouwishtoapplyto,thenyoudoNOTneedtocompletethisapplication.Rather,pleasecompletetheGraduateApplicationforRe-Entrance.

Non-ThesisMastersforScienceEducatorsinBiologicalSciences(degree-seekingstudents):Thisoptionrequiresatotalof30semesterhoursofgraduatecoursework.Atleast18ofthe30hoursmustbeatthe800level.Degree-seekingstudentsmaytransferupto9creditsofgraduatecoursesintothedegreeprogramfromaccrediteddegree-grantinginstitutionswhosescholasticreputationisacceptabletoClemsonUniversity.Totransfer,thegraduatecoursecontentmustbesimilartooneofourrequiredcourseswithagradeofBorabove.Transfercreditsmustnothavebeenusedtosatisfytherequirementsforanyotherdegreeandmusthavebeencompletedwithinthesix-yearperiodprecedingthedatethegraduatedegreewillbeawarded.Transfercoursescannotberevalidatedforgraduatecredit.Theprogramcoordinatormustapprovealltransfercourses.Therearenoexceptionstothisrequirement.

Aresearchproposalandprojectwhoseresultsarepresentedinwrittenformatisalsoarequirementofthenon-thesisMaster'sdegree.Thescopeoftheresearchprojectisnotasextensiveastheregularmaster’sthesisdegreeoption.However,itisexpectedthatanon-thesisstudentwillconductoriginalscientificresearch(onesemesterofdatacollectionduringBIOL8480)andwritearesearchreport(BIOL8490)thatisofthecaliberofamanuscriptsuitableforsubmissiontoapeer-reviewedjournal.Thestudentandstudent’sgraduatecommitteewilldeterminetheresearchproject.Forexample,teachersmaychoosearesearchprojectthatinvolvesusingtheirstudentstocollectandanalyzedata.
