In remembrance of Sir MokshagundamVishweshwarayya,
the most outstanding Engineer of all times, the engineering
fraternity of India celebrates “Engineer Day “every year on
15th September. The function is proceeded by the address-
ing the gathering by chief guest and guest of honor.
Mr.SheshadriMokshagundam has shared his memories
about Sir M Visweswaraya and inaugurated his statue.
Dr.Suresha, principal of SVCE and Dr. H N Rajakumara,
head of civil engineering department addressed the gather-
ing. UGAMA2017 - Explore beyond expectation, an inter-
collegiate model exhibition-cum-competition for engineer-
ing students of the other engineering institute premises on
15 September. 80 students constituting 31 teams represent-
ing from different departments participated in the event.
Awareness Programme on Higher Education and Competitive Exams
Civil forum was conducted in the campus for the awareness
of competitive exams was held on 9th September 2017,
200 students took part in this awareness progamme. The
event was presided by Dr.M. Shashidhar, speaker of the day
was Dr. Shrinath. With the great support of Dr. H N Raja-
kumara, Head of the department of civil engineering, the
awareness program has been organised under civil forum.
The Vani Institute has co-operated for the event and also
given instruction about the GATE and IES coaching classes
conducted at their institute to promote the knowledge of the

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Established in 2004 with modest intake strength of 40 the department has grown three
folds to 120. The PG course in Structural Engineering was started in August 2013. The
department has a balanced competency of faculty richly experienced, highly qualified
and talented in diverse fields. The department has been actively engaged in conducting
workshops, trainings, technical lectures and publishing research papers, newsletters and
conducting industrial visits. Students are engaged in professional activities through stu-
dent chapters.

tivities & achievement through the department newsletter “AAVISHKAR”.I wish them
success in their future endeavor!

I am happy to note that the department of Civil Engineering is bringing out the News-
letter “AAVISHKAR” for the academic year 2017-18. I hope this newsletter will throw
insight on department activities such as workshops, seminars, industrial visits, aca-
demic performance of the students and other co-curricular and extra-curricular activi-
ties. This newsletter will also provide a platform for highlighting the achievements of
students and faculty members of Civil Engineering Department. I congratulate the edi-
torial team members for bringing out this newsletter. I wish all the best for future en-

National Seminar on “Ozone Protection
- An Awareness Programme”
Sponsored by Karnataka Air Pollution Con-
trol Board (KSPCB) was conducted on the 13th
of October n SVCE Auditorium with the inau-
gural function and the occasion was graced by
the chief guest Mr. K. V Shivkumar, Environ-
mental Officer, Regional Office KSPCB,

Industrial visit to “Godrej Properties
Limited”
The students of 5th sem A and B section vis-
ited the “Godrej Properties Limited” Sin-
hanayakanahalli, Doddaballapur main Road,
Yelahanka, Bengaluru,On3rd November 2017
from 10:45 to 4:00pm .Total number of stu-
dents attended the site visit are 106.The facul-
ties who assisted the students are Mrs.
ShwethaShetty M R, Mrs. Priyanka S,
Mrs.Vijayashree, Mr.Manoj.
Project Brief : Residential project spread
across 5.5 Acres colossal land area .This con-
sists of 600 residential units with 1,2, 2.5 and
3BHK flats with super built up area ranging
from 650sqft-1750 It was our first site visit to

Visit to “Geological Survey of India”
Students of 2nd year visited the Geological
Survey of India on 09-11-2017 from 9:00AM
TO 4:00PM around120 students had visited
the site and learned about Geology and GIS
and Aerial survey. The faculties who assisted
them are Dr.Latha M.S, Mrs. Dhanashree Ner-
likar, Mrs. Amulya THM.

Industrial visit to “Bangalore
International Airport Sewage Treatment
Plant”
On 07-11-2017, total 100 students of final year
visited to sewage treatment plant. Mr.Dinesh.E,
General Manager & Head -Utilities & Environ-
ment System, Mr. Jayaram, SM ,Environment
Officer &Mr. Mohan Environment officer ex-
plained in presentation about Introduction to
the Sewage Treatment Process, Management at
KIAB& total volume of sewage wastewater
obtained from different units in BIAL. The
sewage treatment plant is constructed to treat
sewage water up to 2 MLD capacities and over
1.5 acres.

DESIGN OF FEXIBLE PAVEMENT for, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru
Project is prepared for the conversion airside to
landside. The work design of flexible pave-
ment on air side to land side @ BIAL is ap-
proved under Airside to land conversion
works‟ under order no. 46000007104/26-10-17
for consultancy services. The objective of the
project is to design flexible pavement of stretch
520m to convert airside into landside at
Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
The consultancy service includes site survey
and the flexible pavement design. The propose
alignment of project traverses through a Plain
topography and the land-use along proposed
alignment is airside.
