Organising team

Chairperson Dr Anita Sharma

Scrub typhus has come back in a big way in the 21st century with outbreaks in many parts of India. The Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS)

founded by His Holiness Swami Rama, is the oldest medical college of Uttarakhand with its largest tertiary-care hospital and NABL accredited reference laboratory. HIMS treated its first patient of scrub typhus in 2009. The number of patients has been increasing with every passing year, and scrub typhus now accounts for a significant proportion of patients in our ICU and wards.

The Department of Medicine at HIMS is organizing a CME on scrub typhus on

October 6, 2013 to introduce the medical fraternity and health administrators

of our state to some of the best experts in the disease. We will present a

detailed epidemiological and clinical overview of the disease as documented

by our experienced faculty.

There will be sessions on the management of scrub typhus, and a panel

discussion to formulate a comprehensive healthcare and public health

response to this disease. We believe that this CME will equip doctors at all

levels to have high index of suspicion of scrub typhus when warranted,to

diagnose it with confidence and treat it effectively.

Who this CME is for

The CME will cater to the needs of a wide spectrum of health professionals of

Uttarakhand and neighbouring states :

- Medical college faculty and post-graduate students in medicine,

pediatrics, microbiology, community medicine, and nursing in the

states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh

- Practicing physicians

- Health administrators at all levels
