PAPER – I

HISTORY, PRINCIPLES AND FOUNDATIONS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Subject Code: B.P.Ed-T-101

External Marks: 75

Internal Marks: 25

Instructions for paper setters: The external question paper will carry 75 marks and will be of 3

hrs. duration. It will consists of three sections A, B, and C. Section A will be compulsory and will

have 10 short answer type questions of 2 marks each covering the whole syllabus of the subject.

Section B will consist of 8 questions of 6 marks each and candidates are required to answer any five

questions. Section C will consist of four long answer type questions of 12.5 marks each. Candidate

will be required to attempt two questions.

UNIT III

Theories of learning – traditional and modern and their complications to the field of

Physical Education

Play- meaning, definition, theories of Play and their implications in the promotion of

sports.

Principles for female participation in sports.

UNIT IV

Physical Education in India: Pre Independence period: Vedic age, Epic age, Muslim

period, British period.

Post-Independence period: All India Council of Sports, Sports Authority of India,

School Games Federation of India, Association of Indian Universities and Indian

Olympic Association.

Marching: Quick march and halt, turning while marching and time, mark, marching with

salute.

Different Formations: - Initial Order Formation, Open Order Formation, Semi-circular

Formation, Plus Formation, Letter Formation, Sun Formation, Star Formation, Pyramid

Formation, Arrow Formation, India Word Formation, Olympic Ring Formation, India

Map Formation, India Flag Formation, etc.

Exercises with apparatus: Dumble, Lazium, Hoop, Kite, Handkerchief, and Umbrella.

GYMNASTICS

Objectives:-

History of Gymnastics for men and women including important competitions and

personalities of national and international repute.

Introduction about the game/sport and its historical development with special

reference to India.

Knowledge of equipment of international standard required in the game/sport.

Importance of general and specific warming-up, lead-up/recreational games and

limbering down/cooling down.

International rules and regulations of each event/item of gymnastics.

Importance of hygiene for a gymnast.

Etiquette.

Tests/evaluation plan.

FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS

(MEN SECTION)

Developmental Exercises

Exercises on wall bars, exercises on heavy beam, rope climbing, exercises with

medicine ball, pyramid formations and stunts.

Floor Exercises

Forward roll, backward roll, sideward roll, cart wheel, hand stand and forward roll,

backward roll to hand stand, Diving forward roll, side split, head stand, different kind

of scale, dive roll from best board and round off.

Parallel Bars

Mount from one bar, straddle walking on parallel bars, single and double step walk,

perfect swing and shoulder stand on one bar roll forward, roll side, shoulder stand and

front on back vault to the side (dismount).

Vaulting Table

Approach run and jump from the beat board, cat vault, squat vault and straddle vault.

Horizontal Bars

Perfect swing on horizontal bars, single leg up start with swing, mill circle forward,

and mill circle backward.

Pommel horse

Perfect support position on pommel horse, single leg outward (front support), single

leg circle inward (front support) and half single leg circle.

Roman Rings

Perfect swing on roman rings, inverted hand stand and indicate forward with body

bent and straight.

Note: Roman ring will be taught, if facilities are available.

A project is to be undertaken by the student under the supervision of a teacher,

wherein it is expected to survey school facilities of physical education, health assessment

programme evaluation, fitness status of the students, staff and other stakeholders etc. and

submit the report to the institution.

The research report must be submitted on or before the last theory examination of the

IV Semester through Guide and Head of Department/ Principal of the College. The Prescribed

format of the University must be followed.

PART-I-G (School Internship/ Intensive Teaching Practice)

Internship / Teaching Practice

In internship a student (teacher trainee) is undergoing supervised practical training.

Internship/ Teaching Practice includes teaching & Observation in the department/ college.

Intensive teaching practice in the neighbouring schools, community engagements (Village

placement programme). The programme includes teaching indigenous activities, basic skills

in sports and games giving exposure to teachers in the teaching- learning process.

Schools for intensive teaching shall be decoded by the staff Incharge of teaching

practice and head of the department / Principal of the college.

A minimum of 10 Lessons, Students shall complete 10 general and 10 particular

lessons/ coaching lessons in 10 working days under the supervision of assigned department/

college and physical education staff in the schools.

For the community engagements (village placement programme) the students shall

visit the neighbouring village for a minimum period of five days and organize the programme

such as

1. Physical education programme/ Physical related exercise programme

2. Awareness programme related to health and fitness

3. Cleaning, creation of place for physical activities, sports and games

4. Survey related to health and fitness of the public.

The community engagements (village placement programme ) record with details of

programme organized and hoot graph shall be submitted at the time of the university practical

examination for the evaluation of external examiners.
