• Day care services:
Following number of patients were transfused with Red cell concentrate or Whole blood for
correction of severe anaemia due to Thalassemia, Myelodysplastic syndrome( MDS), Iron
deficiency anemia,Carcinoma, Chronic kidney disease(CKD),Hemorrhoids etc.
• Therapeutic Plasma Exchange:In public sector of Bangladesh Therapeutic Plasma exchange was first
introduced at National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital (NINS) from February 2014. Continuous
cell separator machine Comtec, Fresenious Kabi(Germany) and Cobe Spectra (USA) instruments were
used for TPE. Patients from different Neurology ward were sent to Transfusion Transfusion Medicine
department and after each session of TPE they were transferred back to respective ward.
From 01/01/2016 to 31/12/2016 total thirty eight (38) neurological patients were treated by TPE
from this department with one thirty eight sessions.Beside these neurological patients one Throm-
botic Thrombocytopenic Purpuric (TTP) patient was treated succesfully with three sessions.
