DEPARTMENT OF KAYACHIKITSA

Introduction : Kayachitikitsa is the first and important branch of ‘Astang ayurveda’ and it deals with the

diseases of whole body system and mind. The entire Ayurvedic therapeutics is based on the concept of

Agni. The concept of Kaya (Agni) is unique and is responsible for bio- transformation. According to this

natural treatment, the body of a person is product of the constant psychosomatic interactions and diseases

caused are due to the imbalance caused in the tridoshas of the body. This imbalance caused in the three

doshas of vata-pitta-kapha is sometimes, caused by the mind and occasionally by the body's dhatu (tissues)

and mala (toxin deposits). It is then that the Kayachitikitsa branch of ayurveda comes to assistance.

In our institute we deals with the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of general diseases, such as skin

disorders, diabetes, tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis and many other disorders.

The various research activities in the evaluation of efficacy of ayurvedic drugs in hrid roga (cardio-

respiratory disorders), udar roga (gastrointestinal disorders), yakrit roga (hepatology), twak roga (skin &

VD), manas roga (psychiatry), rasayana and vajikarana (geriatrics and aphrodisiacs) and vata vyadhi

(rheumatology and neurology) are going on. The future development plans are to start Geriatric clinic and

Manas Rog clinic and to establish well equipped departmental laboratory to conduct drugs research.
