Item No. 1 - To confirm the minutes of the 1st meeting of the reconsituted DRC for the session 2016-2017 (DRC-01/2016-2017) held on September 15, 2016. The Minutes of the DRC meeting No. 01/2016-2017 were confirmed as circulated. Item No. 2 - Matters arising out of the minutes of DRC-01/2016-2017. a) (Item # 5 of DRC-01/2016-2017) - Change in MTP evaluation committee for students

b) (Item # 13 of DRC-01/2016-2017) – Guidelines for submission of project proposals to funding agencies

The Committee recommended that the departmental faculty may submit the ‘Research Grant Application Coversheet’ to the DRC, even for proposals where they are being listed as Co-PIs , while the PI is from other academic unit of the Institute.

Item No. 3 - Allotment of Projects to 2016 July-entry PhD students.

The Committee approved the allotment of projects to the 2016 July-entry PhD students as given in Annexure - 1. An updated list of DRC approved Ph.D. projects as on date (for allocation in the future) is given in Annexure - 2. The Committee noted that one of the 2016 July-entry PhD student Mr. Navodit Kumar Singh (2016BEZ8009) has not given his choice of PhD project yet. It was decided to give the student a week’s time to submit his choice and the Chairman was authorized to allot the project to the student based on the choice to be indicated by him. Item No. 4 - Request received from 2016 July-entry PhD student Mr. Anirban Jana for floating new PhD projects for him to choose from. It was decided to give Mr. Anirban Jana a week’s time to interact with different faculty members and submit his choice of projects. If required, the faculty members were advised to float new PhD project for the student and have it approved by the DRC. The Chairman was authorized to allot the project to the student based on the choice to be indicated by him. Item No. 5 - Allotment of Projects to 2016 July-entry MSR students. The Committee approved the allotment of projects to the 2016 July-entry MSR students as given in Annexure - 3. An updated list of DRC approved MSR projects as on date (for allocation in the future) is given in Annexure - 4. Item No. 6 - Formation of Student’s Research Committee (SRC) for the PhD student Mr. Biju Jacob (2016BEZ8335). The Committee discussed and constituted the SRC as given in Annexure - 5. Item No. 7 - Synopsis of the MSR thesis titled ‘Elucidation of functions and targets of miR-210 in glioblastoma multiforme’ submitted by Ms. Ankita (2014BEY7502). Based on the recommendation of the SRC, the Committee discussed and approved the synopsis submitted by the MSR student Ms. Ankita. The Committee also approved the panel of Examiners for the thesis and authorized the Chairman to forward the same to Dean (Academics).

Item No. 8 - PhD Admission Schedule for 2nd Semester 2016-2017. The DRC Convener informed the committee about the schedule for PG admissions for 2016-2017, 2nd Semester. It was decided to hold the selections on December 06, 2016 (Tuesday). All the departmental faculty were requested to be available on December 06, 2016 to participate in the PhD student recruitment. The shortlisting criteria used for the 2016- 2017 Semester 1 admission was approved by the Committee to be used again for admission this time and is given in Annexure - 6. The Committee authorized the Chairman to decide on the mode of selection (entrance examination followed by personal interview or just the personal interview) based on the number of PhD applications to be received. Item No. 9 - A note received from Prof. V.S. Bisaria regarding inclusion of marks for performance in MTP viva-voce examination as one of the criterion for final assessment of the students in their thesis work. The Committee discussed the issue flagged by Prof. Bisaria and decided to continue with the current criterion for the final assessment of MTP students. It was further recommended that this issue is to be re-visited as and when the batch of students from new curriculum will being their major term projects. Item No. 10 - A note received from Prof. A.K. Srivastava regarding the Lab Safety handbook released by the Environment Health and Lab Safety Unit (EHLSU) of the Institute. The Committee recommended that all the research personnel working in the laboratories (including lab staff, research fellows, PhD/MSR/MTech-BTech students and others) should be provided with a copy of the Lab Safety Handbook released by the EHLSU (appended at the end of the minutes). The Faculty Lab incharges were advised to ensure that the researchers in their respective laboratories follow the safety guidelines. It was further recommended that any requirement of safety equipment/gadgets, etc must be immediately brought to the notice of Prof. A.K. Srivastava, who is currently the Faculty incharge for Safety in the Department.

Mr. Satyendra Singh and Ms. Shayoni Dutta) received their degrees in the 47th Annual Convocation of the Institute held on November 06, 2016.

The requirement of qualification through a national examination is waived off. For Part-Time and Sponsored (full-time) candidates • All candidates should have a minimum experience of one year. • The minimum qualification for these candidates is the same as for full-time candidates, except that the

requirement for qualifying in a national examination is waived off.
