Choral Prayer for the Nations (The People standing and singing)

My country, 'tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty,

Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims' pride, From every mountainside

Let freedom ring !

Our fathers' God to Thee, Author of liberty,

To Thee we sing; Long may our land be bright With freedom's holy light; Protect us by Thy might,

Great God, our King.

0, may Thy will outreach Till all the nations teach:

Thy love, Thy rod; Of truth and brotherhood, Of one grand Fatherhood, Of mankind's common good, 'Neath Thee, 0 God. Amen.--w.E.K.

A NOTE ON ACADEMIC DRESS

The academic dress worn by faculty and candidates indicates the degree held, the subject in which it is held and the institution granting it. Gowns are of three kinds: the Bachelor's, with full, pointed sleeves, hanging open; the Master's, with sleeves covering the arms only to the elbow and falling in narrow, rectangular panels; the Doctor's, with very full sleeves gathered at the wrist. The gowns are black, although occasionally trimmed with colored velvet; the hoods, on the other hand, are of many colors. The color of the silk lining of the hood indicates the institution granting the degree: e.g., the hood of DePauw University is lined with old gold. The color of the tassel on the cap and of the velvet edging of the hood, carried forward around the

. throat, indicates the faculty or major department:

Apricot: Nursing Citron: Social Service Copper: Economics Crimson: Humanities Dark Blue: Philosophy

Scarlet:

Light Blue: Education Golden Yellow: Science Lemon: Library Science Pink: Music Sage Green: Physical Education

Theology and Divinity

The gold tassel indicates the Doctor's degree, black indicates the Master's or Bachelor's degree and pink indicates the Master's or Bachelor's degree in Music.

Academic dress somewhat different from the above traditional description is a growing tendency in America, particularly in connection with the colors of robes.
