DISTRIBUTION OF REPODISTRIBUTION OF REPORTS RTS -- FINAL REMINDERFINAL REMINDER
A final reminder that unless families request a paper copy through our front office, reports will be forwarded home to families electronically, via email with a secure link, next Wednesday 28 June. The link will remain active for 4 weeks after sending. Families
should ensure that the school has your current email address.
REPORTING EXPECTATIOREPORTING EXPECTATIONSNS
I would like to reinforce with parents that a ‘C’ (Satisfactory) grade on your child’s report indicates satisfactory progress. This grade is made on a comparison to other students in
Western Australia in the same year level at this point in time.
Please take the opportunity to spend time with your child acknowledging and celebrating his/her achievements over first semester. A discussion with your child on areas to improve
on, perhaps setting one or two goals to aim for next semester, would also be valuable.
CROSSWALK APPLICATIOCROSSWALK APPLICATIONN
Following our application to the Children’s Crossing & Road Safety Committee (CC&RSC), we have been advised that initial surveys have been conducted at the suggested location. Further surveys will be conducted at the nominated site and a report will then be considered by the CC&RSC for their
consideration and recommendations.
Families are asked to encourage student pedestrians to utilize this location so that a true picture of the school community’s needs may be gathered. If families are aware of any environmental factors or special circumstances that should be taken into consideration by the CC&RSC when reviewing the report of the location, you should raise your concerns in
writing to the Principal.
DUTY OF CARE/OPENING OF SCHOOL GATESDUTY OF CARE/OPENING OF SCHOOL GATES
Following concerns around Duty of Care for our school community, parents are advised that commencing Term 3, the external gates to the school will not be unlocked each morning until 8.25am. Access for students attending any school based activities before
school will be through our administration building.
We have attached a flier for Camp Australia, our onsite Out of School Care provider, to this newsletter. Please contact them directly if they can assist with supporting your family with
childcare outside of school hours.

TREE PLANTINGTREE PLANTING
This year, to help offset our carbon footprint, T11, T12, G8, G9 and members of the CO2&U group who are not in these classes have been invited to help to revegetate an area around Yarloop that was affected by the devastating bushfires. They will be assisting in the planting of 20 000 seedlings. T11 and T12 are going planting next Tuesday, 27 June and G8 and G9 will be heading down to Yarloop on Thursday, 29 June. Parent helpers are desperately needed to accompany students from G8 & G9. If you are able to assist please email the school on [email protected] or speak to Mrs
Greenwood (G8) or Mrs Cullen (G9).

PARENTPARENT--TEACHER INTERTEACHER INTERVIEWSVIEWS
Here at Aveley PS, Parent-Teacher Interviews have traditionally been held early in Term 3, with a half day close. As classroom teachers are generally in regular ongoing communication with families through email, we will not be following up with these meetings this year. Families are encouraged to contact teachers as required throughout the year. These meetings may be to clarify issues and concerns or to seek general feedback around the progress of your child. Please ensure you contact teachers as
required.
FREE DRESS FUNDRAISEFREE DRESS FUNDRAISER (FRIDAY WEEK 10)R (FRIDAY WEEK 10)

SAFETY HOUSE CHILD & PARENT HANDBOOKSAFETY HOUSE CHILD & PARENT HANDBOOK
All students in our school have received a copy of this handbook to share at home. This is an ideal opportunity for families to take some time to share the information in the handbook and discuss suitable strategies for students to consider if an
uncomfortable situation arises.

It is nearing the end of Semester One for 2017. Thank you to the many hardworking members of our school community who continue to support our school in numerous ways. the best school it can be. Thank you.
On behalf of the Aveley School staff, I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday. School will commence for staff

WASTE FREE WEDNESDAY WASTE FREE WEDNESDAY
Don't forget - Waste Free Wednesday this week and every week.
During the past four weeks the children at Aveley PS have been participating in weekly ‘Waste Free Wednesdays.’ During recess and lunch, the school is divided into five major zones; Kindergarten, Pre-primary, Years 1-2, Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 with bins being made available for the disposal of all organic matter (fruit, veg, food scraps) and paper wrappers/lunch bags. Members of the CO2&U committee and teachers monitor the areas to encourage the correct sorting of rubbish. All students who bring in lunchboxes free of non-organic products go in the draw to become the weekly 'Waste Free Wednesday Warrior' and receive a certificate. Over the past four weeks the following students have demonstrated the power to be waste free. Congratulations to the following waste free warriors and their families. Isaac F in T4, Jade C in G9, Jaiden H in G8, Jayden S in T6, Bradley S in B5, Kaitlyn W in T10, Zayyann J in H13 and Jordan S in T4. Keep up the good work everyone.
Thanks from the ‘Sustainable Schools Initiative Committee’
THERAPY FOCUS ART COTHERAPY FOCUS ART COMPETITIONMPETITION
This term students from Year one to Six have had an opportunity to complete an artwork for the Therapy Focus Art Competition. This year’s story was titled ‘Ben Tries to Fly’. Students selected a page from the story to illustrate. Finalists will be selected shortly and notified. Finalists’ artwork will be displayed at three major shopping centres during the July school holidays, and then winners selected to illustrate the book. Good luck to everyone who participated! APS has had eight
finalists and three winners in this fabulous competition in 2016 and 2015.
NAIDOC EVENTSNAIDOC EVENTS
NAIDOC Week is a celebration of Aboriginal Culture and Language and is celebrated in the first week of July. There are many NAIDOC events that are
happening in the first week of the school holidays around the Perth metropolitan area.
At APS there will be a number of different activities happening in the last week of term. There will be a NAIDOC assembly for all students on Thursday, 29 June with well known Aboriginal actor / comedian Derek Nannup at this this assembly. Derek will also be conducting workshops following the assembly (Years 2 & 3), and on Friday, 30 June (Years 4-6 from 9am-9:45am
and Years K-1 from 9:45-10:30am). There will also be various activities carried out in classes during the week.
In addition, students who have participated in the Aboriginal Songs in Schools Project incursion in Week 8 were invited to participate in the Makuru Festival on Saturday, 1 July. A small number of students are learning three of the songs and will perform them with other school choirs and Madjitil Moorna Choir. Award winning artists Candice Lorrae and Della-Rae
Morrison as well as upcoming artist Kobi Morrison will be leading the choirs.
Other NAIDOC events that you may be interested in attending include Midland NAIDOC on Tuesday, 4 July and Ashfield NAIDOC on Thursday, 6 July. These two events are free with wonderful activities for children. Everyone is welcome to
attend.

Thank you to all families who joined us for our screening of Despicable 3 on Sunday. This was a successful event enjoyed by everyone. Our Lapathon held earlier this term was another success and our top fundraisers were: Pre-Primary – Year 2 1st – Ethan Wulf Room 5 $440 2nd – Samantha Harper T5 $148 3rd – Lazarah McConnell Room 16 $131 The winning class of the Subway Lunch is Room 5. Congratulations these people and also the 10 Lucky Draw winners who received a Child Ticket to Ace Cinemas.
The Canteen will continue to open on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Term 3. Keep your eyes on the Facebook page for the new menu. If you have some time on any of these days Emma and Laura would appreciate all volunteers to contact them direct.
The Safety House program will begin next term. The community is still searching for more Safety House Representatives in the area. Each student will be provided with an emergency card. These cards are the size of a credit card and will have the school phone number and local police number on them. Ideally these are to be put in students school bags and will be issued at the beginning of the new term.
