registration process and assist with course selection.
Goal: • The goal at the end of the presentation is to select your __9th__grade courses and to
list course selections in the google form provided at the end of this presentation
Note: If you do not fill out the Google form used for course selection,
your counselor will choose classes for you

ENGLISH
All __9th_ grade students take English. Here are a few things to consider
when selecting your English Class:
• What is your current grade in English?
• If you are currently making an A or B in your current English class, would
you like to challenge yourself with Honors English next year?
• What placement does your teacher recommend?
• Honors classes are taught at a faster pace and require more in-depth work.

• One (1) semester of Economics/Free Enterprise (Recommended 12th grade)

DESERT MOUNTAIN DIPLOMA SEALSFine Arts Proficiency Seal
▪ The Fine Arts Seal is awarded to graduating high school students who complete an Arizona Fine Arts Pathway and engage in additional fine arts or career and technical education courses; fine arts-related extracurricular activities and community service, and the presentation of a Fine Arts Capstone Project.
▪ You will need four (4) years of Fine Arts Classes.

Seal of Biliteracy
▪ The Arizona Seal of Biliteracy Program recognizes high school students who achieve proficiency in English plus at least one additional language. The seal is placed on the student’s diploma and noted on the transcript

WORLD LANGUAGE
• You must have completed both
semesters of a Language
before moving on to the next
level (preferably with C or higher)
• Arizona Universities require 2
years of the same language
• Competitive Colleges and
Universities prefer 3 or more
years of the same world
language
● IB MYP requires either
Spanish, French or Mandarin
FINE ARTS
• One Fine Arts/CTE credit is required for
graduation
-Arizona universities will accept a CTE
class in lieu of a fine arts credit
-Out of state universities require fine
arts credit, not a CTE
• Fine Arts Classes follow a progression and
should be taken sequentially
• Studio Art I is a prerequisite for all Art
Classes
• Band Auxiliary, Marching Band and Jazz
Ensemble are ZERO hour classes (an
additional morning class )
PHYSICALEDUCATION
Please note, before taking a PE elective in the future,
you must have completed and passed both semesters of
Introductory to Physical Education.

INTER-DEPARTMENTAL
• Student Government requires an application
• Robotics is an 8th-hour class (additional course after school)
• Yearbook is a sequential class
IMPORTANT NOTES▪ If you do not complete the google form linked on the final
page your counselors will select courses for you!!!!!!!
▪ There will be NO COURSE CHANGES at the start of the school year except for classes completed in summer school.
▪ Please keep in mind that all courses must be passed in order to earn credit.
▪ By registering for Honors courses you agree to abide by the Honors Contract
▪ No courses will be switched to eL classes because you do not like your teacher or schedule.
▪ Non-SUSD courses must be approved by your counselor.
