Desert Shores “Beacon” THE PURPOSE OF DESERT SHORES COMMUNITY BAPTIST CHURCH IS TO SHARE THE LOVE AND SAVING

GRACE OF JESUS CHRIST WITH EVERYONE, THROUGH GOD'S POWER, MAKE DISCIPLES WHO LOVE GOD.

Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many

sparrows. The Sign of the Times!

We Have “Touchstone Angels” among us!

I have been asked about “Angels” many times over the years. As

a pastor I am supposed to have all the answers. Well, I don’t.

Scripture mentions them, but you can just imagine the many

questions. One of the most common questions is “do angels exist.”

Yes! God created beings to serve Him and they are called angels.

God made human beings a little above the angels. We don’t

become angels when we die because we were not created as

angels. His angels protect us, they deliver His messages

An angel is a messenger of God or supernatural being, either good or evil, with greater than human powers. The

two major words translated “angel” appear almost 300 times from Genesis to Revelation. One or two angels, or

whole hosts (armies) of angels, may appear to a specific person. The angel who announced the birth of Jesus

Christ to the shepherds was joined by “a multitude of the heavenly host” praising God (Lk 2:13, 14). In the

garden of Gethsemane, Jesus said to one disciple, “Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will

at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?” (Mt 26:52).1

We show hospitality to visitors or strangers, because we are reminded that we could be entertaining angels. “Do

not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares” (Heb 13:2).

As followers of Christ, we are messengers of God’s word, specifically we preach or proclaim the WORD, Jesus

Christ to a lost world. All of us should be doing this. We represent God not only in our words, but also in our

actions. It is my hope that we will be intentional in our sharing of the Gospel and demonstrating Christ is love.

We have a group of people in our church who have committed to do just that towards this body of believers.

They are called “Touchstone Angels”. You should be getting a note from your angel soon in the mail. If you

don’t please let Susie Hite, Kurt Harlan or I know and we will make sure you know who your angel is and if

you don’t have one, we will make sure you get one assigned to you.

You might ask, “Do I have to be a member to have an angel?” No, anyone who is a regular attender can have an

angel.

You might wonder, “What does my angel do?” I don’t think they do windows, but they might. What an angel

does is keep in contact with you to make sure you are okay. If you are gone for a while, they will call to see if

there is any way they can pray for you, assist you or refer you to someone to help meet your needs. They also

will know who your Deacon is and if you need a visit, they will call them and let them know you have a need.

They will also contact me if they feel that is needed. They are not your guardian angel, but they will do their

best to act like one.

Why the Touchstone Angel program? Because you matter. We don’t want anyone to feel left out or neglected

and the deacons and your pastor need help to know when a need arises or if we are falling short of meeting your

needs. I believe this program will help us minister one to another. I believe it will be a blessing to the angels as

well as those to whom they minister. If you would like to be an angel, let Susie know.

As your pastor, I am grateful to have angels!

From your deacon team, God bless you ALL

I would like to share Colossians 3:1-4 if then you were raised with

Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, and sitting at

the right hand of God. V.2 set your mind on things above, not on

things on earth. V.3 For you died, and your life is hidden with

Christ in God. V.4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you

also will appear with Him in glory.

In vs. 2-3 says "for you died" means that we should have as little

desire for improper worldly pleasures as a dead person would have. The

Christian's home is where Christ lives (John 14:2, 3). This truth

provides a different perspective on our lives here on earth. To "set your mind on things above “means to look at

life from God's perspective and to seek what he desires. This provides the antidote to materialism; we gain the

proper perspective on material goods when we take God's view of them. It also provides the antidote to sensu-

ality. By seeking what Christ desires, we have the power to break our obsession with pleasure and leisure activ-

ities. But it also provides the antidote to empty religiosity because following Christ means loving and serving

in this world. Regard the world around you as God does; then you will live in harmony with him.

God Bless You All In Christ Jesus, Your Servant “In Christ” Manuel Rojas

Hello Everyone!

September is here, and I am delighted to let you know that J.O.Y. After School is doing very well. The volun-

teers and staff, of J.O.Y., including myself, were blessed to attend and participate in an amazing training by the

Child Evangelism Fellowship of Arizona. (Good News Club). This training happened on Saturday, August 24 at

First Baptist Church in Fort Mohave.

J.O.Y.’s September character trait is “Respect Others.” We will have several awe-

some verses from God’s word to memorize this month that teach us how we can

glorify God by respecting others.

Sunday School and Children’s Church are going very well. I am delighted to share

with you that during Sunday morning service our children will be staying for the

first part of the service so as a Church family we can all worship God together.

Right before Pastor George gives his message the children will be dismissed for

Children’s Church and the children will go over to building B for an awesome mes-

sage, activity, and snack.

Mark your calendars for some fun and awesome events. First, on October 27 from 4-6 pm, we will be having

our Fall festival here at the Church. Next, in December, our children will be participating in the Boom Box Pa-

rade the first week of December. If you would like to donate towards the costumes and props for the float, that

would be greatly appreciated. Lastly, remember our Children’s Christmas Cantata. It will be Sunday, December

8 at 6:00PM.

In mid-September, the Youth will be starting a Youth Bible Study Sunday nights, here at the Church.

Prayerfully consider volunteering for J.O.Y., Joyful enrichment, Children’s Church, or for our Youth Group.

Please continue to be praying for our Youth and Children. Each of our Youth and Children are a special gift

from God to our Church family. Thank you for your time and God Bless!

Love in Christ, Timothy Sprenkle (Children’s/Youth Director)

Mission: Dignity

Our church donated over $1000 on Mission: Dignity Sunday.

Thank you to all who gave and will be giving. Please consider a

gift to Mission: Dignity in any of the following ways:

· Through the church offering (designating Mission: Dignity in

the memo line of a check and on the envelope)

· Mail gifts to: Mission: Dignity GuideStone Financial Resources

SBC 5005 LBJ Freeway, Ste. 2200 Dallas, TX 75244-6152

Here’s a recent letter of thanks from a Mission:Dignity recipient:

“To the donors associated with the Mission:Dignity program, I would like to say thank you so very much for the

assistance you are providing me. My husband, Joe, would be so proud and honored to know about this. Joe pas-

tored Baptist Churches for 51 years and the amazing thing was that he only missed two Sundays! I miss him

more than you can know. But our blessed and unique life has taught me that God will walk with me and provide

what I need.” – Paula J. Smith, Mission:Dignity Recipient Since 2018.

Hello All!

Thank you all for your prayers for my surgery and recovery. Having a couple of visits, calls and cards was

appreciated, and a special thanks to the brother/sister-in-Christ who

met my need to have a recliner chair that actually reclines!

Being my first time writing for the Beacon, I wanted to touch base

on how blessed this year has been. The worship team has been

blessed with the continued faithful service of Darlene, De, Glenna,

Pastor George, Jason, Jeri, Judy, Julia, Ms. Martha, Myrna, Peggy,

Rob, and we’ve welcomed to the team Becky, Brandon and Tom.

We’re always looking for more instrumentalists and vocalists,

just see me if you’re interested in becoming part of the Worship

Team. I also want to take the opportunity to thank the

generous members of the church family who made it possible to

purchase the electric drums, and the iPad for streaming/posting our Saturday and Sunday services on-line. We

also welcomed Glenda to our team this year, and she is “signing” (American Sign Language) the song lyrics and

sermons. We would like to expand our Facebook outreach to the deaf community next year. It’s hard to believe,

but we’re getting closer to the end of 2019 already! Judy has music ready to go for the Christmas cantata and

practice will start soon. Please consider joining the choir, as you will not only be blessed, but will be a blessing

as well. Lastly, save the date September 29, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. for our next Singspiration Night. Our first event

was in April, and we had a wonderful time. If you would like to participate by singing a solo, please just let me

know. Otherwise, please just join us for an evening of music and fellowship. To wrap this up, let me quote

Psalm 98:4-6: 4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; 5: make music to

the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, 6: with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s

horn— shout for joy before the LORD, the King. I look forward to us singing our praises unto the Lord

together. John Young

MOVIE NIGHT

SATURDAY, 9/28/19

3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Outcast by most of the children in the junior high school he attends, Tobey

Marshall has been deeply traumatized by the death of his parents at the

World Trade Center on 9/11. Living with his Uncle Nick and Jannah, Tobey

is a loner who has created his own world where he believes he is protected by

a guardian angel. A young girl named Suzy, whose own beliefs are in

question, befriends Tobey and by doing so discovers that they have more in

common than she ever expected. Suzy has captured the fancy of Jim Doder, a

popular basketball player at school, who leads a double life as a gang leader

in a series of local home burglaries. When Suzy rejects Jim's affections, and

her relationship with Tobey continues, Jim makes life difficult for the both of

them. After one of Doder's gang is arrested in a botched burglary attempt,

Tobey is framed. In the dramatic and exciting climax, Tobey must prove his

innocence to Suzy and the whole school by facing reality and confronting

Jim Doder in public.

Blessing bags from God.

Blessing bags are in the foyer. Please take some to give to the homeless standing on

the corners around town. The bags include soap, shampoo, toothpaste, water and

snack bars. We need more toothbrushes with covers. A package of three

toothbrushes with covers can be found at Dollar Tree next to Safeway for one

dollar. This has been a very successful mission and we really appreciate your

support.

Remember, keep blessing bags handy in your car

Joyce Larsen has been asked to do a biography or two each month for the Beacon. So, please send your story to

Joyce Larsen at [email protected] or call (928) 234-5793. What do you most want to know about your church

family? E-mail your ideas to Joyce. If you don’t send a bio, then Joyce will be calling you. If there are no bios

waiting to be shared, she will start interviewing by using the church directory (alphabetically). Let’s get to

know each other better

From the Prayer Team –

Week after week; year after year we have a faithful handful who come to pray for

our church family and for our country. We are thankful to God that He has blessed us

with this ministry of prayer. We are also thankful to those who ask us to pray. We

serve a Powerful Creator Who hears and answers prayer. Thank you to all who stand

with us in prayer.

Please fill out the ‘tear-off’ part of the weekly bulletin and give it to an usher on

Saturday night or Sunday morning worship. We will see your request and we will pray. Please write legibly so

we can read your prayer needs.

Good Morning All! Please join us in prayer for our fellow members, friends of members and our beloved USA.

I am very sad to share with you the passing of our dear brother in Christ Misi Savea. He was in Las Vegas on Friday for open heart surgery. Following the surgery complications were experienced and he passed from this life into Glory on Wednesday, August 21. Susi appreciates our prayers and told Rexie Money she would be back in church next Sunday. Please pray for God to hold the family close to His heart. If you would like to send a card I have included their mailing address. Additionally, you may bring cards to the Business meeting on Wednesday evening at 6 PM. The Bible Study will follow at 6:30. We will make sure Susi receives your card when she comes on Sunday.

Many of our church family members will remember Phyllis and Paul Anderson from Rivi-era Baptist Church. Phyllis was also the founding member of the Comfort Zone, which ministered to women with cancers. Paul died some years ago. It is with a heavy saddened heart to inform you that Phyllis Anderson has passed away to-day at 3 a.m. She fought the good fight for several years but the Lord healed her by calling her home. There will be a memorial service for her here in Bullhead and I will let you know as soon as I get the information. Her family thanks all of you for your beautiful cards, prayers and thoughts. I know I have missed many people so please pass on the information for me. Additionally, Rick Adams reported on Sunday that Juan Carlos Conte' had surgery on Tuesday, August 20, and in rehab at Valley View hospital. He welcomes all visitors. Lynda Neitz Church Clerk

Christmas Child is ready to get under way. Here is a list of items to put in the shoeboxes. Shoeboxes are available in the foyer for you to pick up. Since the shoe boxes will be pur-chased by the church, only take the ones you intend to fill and return by October 19, 2019 on Sunday morning either in the foyer or to Kay's office Monday through Thursday from 9-2. If you have any questions please call Diane at 758-1554. Thank you in advance for your participation.

“Give thanks in all circumstances”

Is it really possible to, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus,” as 1

Thessalonians 5:18 encourages? It seems like God is asking too much of us, especially during times of great

disappointments, tremendous losses, or unbearable heartaches. It is hard for us

to comprehend how we are supposed to give thanks during these types of difficulties

and challenges.

The misunderstanding comes in thinking we are supposed to give thanks “for”

everything when God is leading us to give thanks “in” everything.

It is a concept some of us struggle with and resist, thinking God is telling us to be

thankful “for” the difficulties. This makes us miss what He is really leading us to do,

which is to be thankful despite the problems, to not let disappointments, failures,

losses, and hurts keep us from being thankful to Him.

During tumultuous times, God asks us to focus on Him and His faithfulness to us,

rather than on our circumstances; to dwell on His promise to never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), and to

trust Him to help us in every situation we face in life.

In Him, Editor Ernie
