WestNowadays the old gasworks are cultural and multi-function-al buildings. The buildings contains for example a club, a cinema, a café, a theater and serves as a monthly indoor market.

The park and the gasworks stand for culture and relaxation. A per-fect place to relax and enjoy the diversity that Amsterdam has to offer. It is also a lot less touristy than the Vondelpark. In this chapter I’ll show you the Westerpark at it’s best. The last two chapters contains ads I’ve created for the park!

Westerpark is a park located in Amsterdam-West. Before the park was created in 1980, there was a station located in this area. From here you could travel to Haarlem, a town near Am-sterdam.

Years before the park was called ‘Westerpark’, it was a lot small-er place to relax and there was a big gaswork next to the ‘park’. The headquarters of this gasworks is now the district office. Later, the gasworks also became part of the park which was eventually named ‘Westerpark’. Also the neighborhood around it is called Westerpark now.

has a special kids’ menu. Late on Friday and Saturday nights, the chairs are pushed to one side and the restaurant is trans-formed into a sort of club where live bands perform.

Pacific Parc is in a huge industrial area on the Westergasterrein (West Gas Works Terrain). This creatively constructed, some-what chaotic restaurant serves decently priced dishes and also

For hire: The cinema boasts three screens, with the largest ca-pable of seating an ample 143 filmgoers. And if you’re thinking of organising a gathering or throwing a party, the Ketelhuis Cin-ema is the place to be - each of the screens as well as the foyer area is available for hire.

In April 2009, the Ketelhuis Cinema celebrated ten years of films, debates and swinging dance evenings.

Cultural cinema: From small beginnings as a temporary cinema in the ‘culture park’ Westergasfabriek, the cinema has grown to be an important Amsterdam landmark for Dutch, arthouse and documentary films.

Movies & munchies: A team of volunteers are the driving force behind the Ketelhuis Cinema foundation. The team not only

DiversityWith this ad I’ve tried to combine all the different parts of the park in one image/ad. The meaning of this ad is to show what the Westerpark stands for. You may have noticed the relaxing, the movies and the rock ‘n roll part. If you didn’t, please take another look at the ad!

At the left you see the first ad I’ve created to promote the Westerpark. In my opinion the Westerpark stand for relaxation and divirsity. As you’ve seen in the ‘Portaying Westerpark’-chapter, Westerpark has a lot to offer. If you want to drink, eat, dance, watch a movie or just relax in a great park in Amsterdam, you should visit the Westerpark.

&COME RELAXevening at a relaxed way without spending to much! That’s the mes-sage I’ve tried to communicate with the ads on the right. It gives you the feeling of the park and teels you why it’s way better than the rest of Amsterdam.

As I’ve noticed before Westerpark has a lot to offer. But eventually it comes down to one thing: relaxation. The park is an ideal place to rec-reate and relax with friends. In addition it’s also a cheap way to have a good time. Bring your own food and BBQ to the park and start the
