Elements of Design on the Web

GoogleSimplicity
Google shows simplicity because there is nothing on the homepage. It is white space, a logo, and a search bar. There is a little advertisement, but it’s tiny and almost invisible. This helps people stay focused on their task as they search.
Mumford and SonsEmphasis
Mumford and Sons’ website represents emphasis because the center image and text really captures the eye. The visual weight is high because it’s so busy. This emphasis is helped by the blank blue frame on most sides.
HBO GoScale and Proportion
It has a large main banner contrasted with smaller icons at the bottom. You see the large banner first then are attracted by the repetition of the smaller links.
TumblrRhythm
The white blurbs repeat all the way down the page and never end. This creates repetition that emphasizes a rhythm that locks the viewer in and keeps them scrolling.
NBCBalance
Example of symmetrical balance with the emphasis in the center with a large, dark header separating the upper and main lower parts of the page.
MountainDew.comVariety
There is variety in texture, size of icons, and pop-ups that engage as you mouse over each tile.
NetflixUnity
This one shows unity by similarity, proximity, and alignment of each tile or movie cover. Each tile is similar in shape. They are close together, evenly spaced apart, and arranged in a grid.
