Hi, I’m Tomiwa!
I'm a self-taught multi-disciplinary designer from Lagos, Nigeria. Over the last 7 years, I’ve helped develop digital experiences for a number of well-respected brands on projects ranging from user experience, visual design, communication, and product strategy.
I currently lead the Product Development team at Farmcrowdy where we’re using technology to build innovative solutions for the Nigerian agriculture value chain. Previously, I’ve worked in various capacities including in marketing, UI/UX design and front-end development. I helped grow revenue at Farmcrowdy by over 200% in 20 months while leading the Marketing team.
I'm interested in exploring the use of design thinking and social innovation for tackling inefficiencies and optimising processes across the food production value chain in Nigeria. I also keep a close eye on emerging tech (VR & AR, wearables, IoT, blockchain), agritech and agribusiness, fintech and Sub-Saharan Africa in general.
I also actively seek out speaking and mentorship opportunities, consulting roles, and I execute side projects; everything from visual design, marketing strategy and web development projects. I manage to find time to dabble in some amateur photography as well!

Farmcrowdy FoodsFarmcrowdy Foods is a one-stop digital marketplace that allows consumers to conveniently purchase highly affordable fresh food products and groceries from the comfort of their homes
WhyA vast majority of Nigerians rely on purchasing their food produce directly from local markets. These markets largely do not adhere to standard hygienic practices and safety precautions thus increasing the risk of contaminated food, unfit for human consumption, being sold to the public.
There is also the lack of a formal distribution framework which leads to food being transported via informal means and contributes to food waste.
Then there is looming threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What I didI led the development of the product. Carrying out market research and user interviews. Armed with the data collected from the research stage, I defined brand strategy and product scope, as well as the addressable market and revenue model.
I also led the design of the mobile app, the web landing page as well as the brand messaging look and tone.

CASE STUDY
We carried out our research on the meat selling section of the app by first visiting local abattoirs and talking to the meat sellers to better understand our target audience.
We then developed a survey targeted at young professionals and housewives asking questions about their decision-making process when buying meat. We utilized the findings of the primary and secondary research to better understand personas of our potential target segment.
The data collected from this stage helped us define our brand strategy and decide which products were most advantageous to hold on our inventory as well as informing us about the buying preferences and habits of our target market.

FarmcrowdyFarmcrowdy is an Agric-Tech platform focused on connecting small-scale farmers with middle-class Nigerians we call sponsors in order to boost food production, impact positively on the farmers while providing a healthy return for our sponsors.
Why38 million smallholder farmers lack access to finance, certified inputs, knowledge of good agronomic practices and superior markets. Thus leading to post-harvest losses across several value chains ranging from 20-60%.
Over 40 million middle-class Nigerians see agriculture and agribusiness as a ripe alternative investment opportunity.
What I didI led the team that redesigned the brand identity system, from the brand’s stationery, to the iconography and other brand elements.
We also redesigned the user interface and experience for the Farmcrowdy website and the the Farmcrowdy mobile app. This was a fantastic challenge because there we had no precedent - an app that made agriculture and farming look and feel accessible to a majority of Nigerian users.
We carried out user interviews and had constant feedback sessions with advisers on the tech and product aspects of the mobile app.

Golden Seed Fats & Oil
What the brand wanted to achieveA simple brand Identity.
“The charcoal business is consumer-facing hence must be easy on the eyes. It will retail in foreign stores like Tesco. The other parts of the business are local and will interact with local stakeholders.”
What the brand wanted to express to the target audience.“Golden Seed is a trusted supplier, doing whatever it takes to meet your production cycles. For charcoal, our briquettes are light and burn longer.”
What I didConducted interviews with key members of the team and documented a branding requirements brief with insights about the company’s mission, values and personality.
With that information in hand, I got to work coming up with logo ideas. Once a logo design was decided on, I then developed a brand book with detailed brand elements, an identity system and brand identity applications as well as messaging guidelines.
