TheoriginalsitefortheBaldwinTrainmanufacturingplant.BaldwintrainsastheinnovationoftheautomobilemovedoutofPhiladelphiaandleftbehindamassivefootprintthathasyettoberedeveloped.

Theunderlyingtunnelcanberedevelopedasagreencorridorthatcanprovidecityresidentswithaplacetowalk,bike,re-laxandenjoythepieceofhistorythatlieshere.

ThebelowstreetlevelcorridorrunsfromBroadstreetallthewaydownto23streetinPhiladelphia’sArtMuseumDistrict.ThecorridoriscurrentlybeingusedasaparkinglotforWholeFoodsaswellasthePolicedepartment.Theotherhalfisbeingletgetovergrownwithbrushandhasevenattractedsomehomelesspeoplewhonowresideunderthestreetover-passes.

Theideaistoredevelopthisoncemanufacturingplantintoagreencorridorwherepeoplecancomeandwalk,bikeorrunthroughandhaveplaceswhereotherscansitandenjoyvari-ouseventsandactivitiesthatsomeoftheorganizationsintheareawouldbeabletohold.

ThedesignfortheterminalsbetweenAWestandEareDesignedtomimicthetwonewstations.

Thedesignismeanttocreateasenseofoutsidewaitingspace.

Thepurposeofmakingthewalkthatconnectseachstationistobringpeopleoutsideoftheairportandtomakethemwanttowalkoutsideofthebusyairport.

Theplantingismeanttobeverysymmetricaltomimicthestructureoftheairportandthefactthatitisbeingcutintwobythisveryflowinglandscape.

TheSEPTAR1runstoandfromcentercityhittingeachma-jorstationontheway.ButanotherstopthatitmakesisatEastwick.

Thisstationisunderutilizedandhasbecomeverydegraded.Theemployeeparkingaswellasthecellphonelotsarelo-catedaroundthestation.Thesearesomewaysinwhichtohelpprovidebetteraccesstotheseamenities.

Thegroundsareinpoorshapecollectingwaterandcreatingproblemsofbugsanderosion.Thesearereasonstoimprovethesiteandaddthingssuchasraingardensandbetteraccessandaoverallbetterappealforpeopletocomeusethesitetogetintotheairport.
