The proposal is to fracture the Christiansburg Library’s envelope to allow public life, natural environment, and views of knowledge and interaction to permeate the building. Exploring the potential of kinetic architecture will allow for an inviting space while balancing tactile and responsive design. Libraries are static structures where knowledge is sought after and carried to and from the building. The building should refl ect the responsive nature of the end-user through a series of cracks, gaps and fi ssures that serve as a stimulus in the design. Facing a responsibility to conserve and protect our natural resources, the design for the Christiansburg library aspires to be a role model for healthy buildings and lifestyles. A showcase of green architecture, interiors, and landscape is achieved through a network of passive design strategies, sustainable materials, and bio-retention landscape. The overriding objective is to balance the dynamic end-user with the consistency of literacy and knowledge in its ever evolving variations. Creating a design that combines effi cient spatial adjacencies with an organic, palpable experience is a key component.

Geomorphic is a design that encompasses theapplication of geology, topography and adventure within a “morph-able” and mobile environment. This mobile exhibit will encourage health and wellnessthrough a geomorphic pattern that refl ects therandom changes in land form that promote movementand exploration. Educating visitors on healthy, active lifestyles becomes an interactive experience as end-users move, manipulate and morph through the space. Geomorphic is a modular system that is adaptable and interactive, creating a unique, cave-likeatmosphere. Applying active design on multiple levelswill create an environment that makes healthy choicesaccessible, enhance social norms and social support, education and motivate individuals to take ad-vantage of opportunities for healthy behaviors.

The United States Paralympic Headquarters serves past and existing athletes as it plans upcoming Olym-pic events. While many of these athletes fi nd them-selves with a different combination of abilities, this offi ce will create an experience that can speak specifi callyto each. Ensuring that a person can experiencea space in their own particular way contributesto a very specifi c design, ever changing to the each end-user. Health and Wellness is an important factorin the Olympic world which is why it serves as the foundation to this offi ce. With several opportunitiesfor movement and collaboration, employees are constantly in action. The custom tensile wallencompasses the ideals of user interaction while also representing the need for adaptation in design.

As software continues to advance, it is important to understand the relationship between design and technology. This design tool allows for integration and instant repetition and iteration. This self initiated research has included parametric design in Revit, solar analysis in Vasari and programming in Dynamo. This ongoing study allows me to explore the connection between these tools and challenge myself on each design project. é ê ë ì í î ï ð ñ ò ó ô ð é ð õ ò ö ö ï ð ÷ ð î ò ì ÷ ø é ô í ÷ î

Sustainable Innovations is a multi-disciplinary design studio aimed at solving modern day problems. This team comprises of four students from design, biology and engineering. Our team is focused on the collection and fi ltration of water to reduce the stress of water shortages in America. The solution will mimic the function and technique of a sequia tree as they are able to collect, abosrb, and regulate its water levels. Being able to collect this water for population, commerce and agricultural needs could alleviate the stress on many communities. $ % & & ' $ () $ * + ( , - ' ) . * - / ' 0 (

2013-14, OPEN MARCH 2014

During my time with Colley Architects I served as the lead designer on Burger ‘37, a renovated Burger restaurant on Virginia Tech’s campus. This included schematic design, client consultation, a full set of construction documents and constructionadministration. Being a part of this project frombeginning to end provided valuable design experienceto create a full document set, collaboration with mechanical and electrical engineers, and following a budget and schedule. Burger ‘37 was designed with an industrial style that included corrugated metal, wood paneled walls, and c-channels.Having an understanding of how each of these designelements works provided very valuable knowledge to serve as the foundation for my design career.
