FALL 2011 BGSU Design 1 Final Project

In this introductory course to design and its representation we created an outdoor pavilion. I explored the stan-dard documentation and representa-tion of architecture, using hand drawn plans and elevations as well as an axonometric drawing and basswood model.

This final design was the result of a comprehensive process of intergrating two elements. The semester involved several con-ceptual exercises culminating in the formation of an artists studio for working on and displaying art aswell as meeting with clients. The conceptual process began with a simple evaluation of two hands interacting in a hand-shake. Based the movements of the handshake we created a drawing. The next step in the process was to involve this conceptial movement and inter-action into a cube made up of two different materials, concrete and wood. After we made this cube we recieved a program and developed the cube into a work-ing studio.

LDM International Institute Spring 2014 Public Space DesignFinal Project This course had two projects, a mid-term and final in which we were asked to analyze public spaces in the city of Florence. We were asked to improve upon them based on the needs of the stakeholders and several anaylsis meth-ods. The final project was located in the San Lorenzo area that had a problem with storefront spaces as carts on the street were blocking the stores on the sidewalk. There is a major food market on the site as well. Using AutoCAD 2014 I was asked to re-design the streets and surrounding area.

Fall 2014 UMass Amherst Design 3Public Library In this project, we were asked to design a library with sustainable features. The site is a tight urban con-text in downtown Amherst. We began by researching sustainable libraries. Then we analyzed the site tem-perature, sun orientation, wind and humidity. We then moved into conceptual de-sign and finished with sche-matic design using revit and rhino.

Spring 2015 UMass Amherst Design 4 Pynchon Park The Final project of this stu-dio was the re-designing of a public plaza, Pynchon Park, in the tight urban context of Springfield MA. The site is a connection point between two streets in downtown Spring-field with a 40 ft difference in gradation. We were given a multi-use building program in-cluding residential areas. We developed the project from conceptual design phase to schematic design phase us-ing rhino and revit.

Spring 2016 UMass Amherst Design 6 Courtyard Project 208 Race Street is an underutilized site located on the border of North and South Holyoke. After meeting with the site’s co-owners it is evident that green space and convienient seating is a must. The stakeholders of the site included the Lighthouse school in Holyoke who are very musically and artistically inclined. This design provides an opportunity for these students to express themselves to the public through an outdoor perfromance stage with a mural wall behind it. As a class we engaged the Lighthouse clients with a variety of participatory design techniques. Other stakeholders include the other tenants of the building and the public of Holyoke. The performance space would also double as a seating area when not in use. There is seating across the performance space for viewers. The stage also works to frame the performance and frame the view of the canal across the street.
