Pierce Publisher FORT PAYNE - The Geraldine Volleyball program has built a winning tradition under head coach Cristie Brothers. The Lady Bulldogs continued that tradition on Saturday by defeating Fort Payne in the finals of the DeKalb County Tournament to claim the program’s fourth consecutive county volleyball title. “I thought they played together very well,” said Brothers of her team’s effort. “I put a lot of different combinations on the court in different matches and I feel like they played as a team. They didn’t let changes in personnel affect their play.” Geraldine advanced to the tournament finals by defeating Sylvania 25-14 and 25-6, Fort Payne 25-15 and 25-15, and Ider 25-14 and 25-9. The Lady Bulldogs faced Fort Payne again in the Championship match. In game one, Geraldine scored first and never trailed, winning 25-15. In game two, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run behind the serving of Stephanie Andrews. Fort Payne pulled to within one at 9-8. Geraldine answered with five consecutive points to go ahead 14-8 and the Lady Bulldogs went on to claim the 25-10 victory over Fort Payne. “This is a good momentum builder going into post season,” said Brothers. “We have the potential to win it all. If they will continue to work together as a team and support each other and play good clean volleyball no matter who the competition is, I think Geraldine defeats Fort Payne to win fourth straight DeKalb County Title we have a team to beat,” added Brothers Audra Oliver paced the Lady Bulldogs in the tournament with 33 kills, five blocks, and seven aces.
