The Design Thinking Test is an online test that assesses creativity of participants as well as their ability to evaluate ideas based on
the design thinking principles, using a proprietary consensus-building algorithm, as opposed to a majority vote scoring.
The Design Thinking Test consists of two online sessions.

Precautions
• Examinees must complete BOTH the Creation Session and the Evaluation Session within the testing period.
• Examinees who did not participate in the Creation Session or did not submit valid answers in the Creation Session will not be able to
participate in the Evaluation Session. (Testing period deadlines cannot be extended)
• Please refer to the explanations detailed in this manual for specific precautions relating to each session.
• In general, tests results will be disclosed. However, please note that depending on the test, there may be cases where test results will not
be disclosed.
• Examinees must register an account to be able to take a test. You will not be able to register for a test unless your account registration has
been completed.
• To register for an account, examinees will need a valid email address and a phone number that can receive SMS or make voice calls.
• This test requires a Japanese or US phone number.
• Please note that your answers provided in the Creation Session will be evaluated by other participants in the Evaluation Session.
• Any form of harassment and/or the use of socially unacceptable language will not be tolerated. In such cases, those answers will not be
reflected in the scoring and your account may be suspended.

Account Registration (Mobile Verification)
To take the Design Thinking Test, you will need to register an account.
You will need to complete mobile verification to complete your account registration, so please have your mobile on hand.
Check the confirmation box to agree to the
“Handling of Personal Information” and
“Terms of Service”.
Select your country, enter your phone number
and choose either “Receive via voice call” or
“Receive via SMS” to receive your mobile
verification code.
Enter the verification code sent to your
mobile phone and click “Verify”.

How to Register for the Test
To take the Design Thinking Test, you must pre-register for the test in advance.
Please note that you will need to login via the specific URL provided to you by the company/organization to register for the
relevant test.
(*Caution : The relevant test will not be displayed if you login via the regular login page URL)

③ The “Start Test” button will become highlighted when the testing session
begins for each Creation Session and Evaluation Session. Click this button to start
the test.

In this session, you will come up with ideas from a combination of keywords.
What is the Creation Session?
1. Start by selecting “Who”, “Where”, and “When”, then
write a description for “Why” i.e. describe the unmet
needs that the “Who” in that scenario would want to solve.
2. Next, select a “What”, and come up with ideas on the “How”
that solves the “Why” i.e. ideas on how to solve the unmet
needs of the “Who” in the scenario.

Most webshops don't show the final price including shipping and handling until the final page. A solution is to add a meta-search function that visualises and calculates the final price using the initial item listing price, as well as a simplified payment system enabled by voice (voiceprint) authentication.

Creation Session Tips
The following 2 points should be kept in mind when describing the “Why” (unmet needs).
・Is it a need that can be strongly empathized with by someone in the position of “Who”?
・Is it a need that has not yet been solved?
The following 2 points should be kept in mind when describing the “How” (ideas on how to solve the unmet needs).
・Is it a novel idea?
・Is it a highly feasible idea?
Once you have completed your “Who/Where/When” selections and entered your
“Why” description, the “Next” button will become activated. Please note that once
you select “Next” you cannot return to the previous page.
Why should be answered with a description between 80 - 480 words.
Click “Select” to choose “Who/Where/When” options from the popup list. (Your
selections can be changed at any point until you click the “Apply” button on the
bottom right hand of the popup.)
The “Who/Where/When” selections consist of a "modifier + noun" with 5 choices
for each modifier and noun.
Different modifier and noun options will be given for each question.You can review and edit your answers through the “Your Answers” page. (Only
“Why” and “How” answers can be edited)
Note that any modifications or edits to your answers will be saved and your
previous answers will be deleted. (This applies to edits made in other
sections/pages.)

Once you have completed your “What” selections and entered your “How” description, the “Submit”
button will become activated.
If you do not click the “Submit” button, your answers to both “What” and “How” will not be saved, so
please be careful to finish the section by clicking “Submit”.

• Examinees will not be able to participate in the Creation session if the testing period has expired. The session period time limits cannot
be extended.
• Examinees who did not participate in the Creation Session or did not submit valid answers in the Creation Session will not be able to
participate in the proceeding Evaluation Session.
• Multiple entries that are suspected of being the same answer using copy/paste or entries of similar answers will be deemed invalid
and will not be considered in the scoring.
• Please be aware that there is a session time limit. Once the session has begun, the session time limits cannot be reset or extended.
• Click the “Submit” button to submit your ideas/answers. Ideas/answers that are not submitted will not be considered as valid.
• Use the “Who”, “Where”, “When” and “What” selections to guide and sharpen your ideas.
• Within the session period time limit, submitted answers can be edited in the “Answer List” page. (Only the “Why” and “How”
descriptions can be edited. The “Who”, “Where”, “When” and “What” sections cannot be edited once submitted. )
Creation Session Precautions ①
• When making "What" selections, clicking the "Refresh ‘What’" button will not affect your score.
• You can end the session by clicking the “Finish” button even if there is time remaining. Once finished, the session cannot be restarted.
• In the event that you start the Creation session at a time that extends beyond the the overall testing period deadline, the time will adjust
to allow answer inputs during the Creation session time limit.
• In the event that you close your browser during the session, the time limit will continue to clock, so please log in again as soon as possible
to resume the session.
• In the evaluation session, your ideas will be displayed to a third parties for evaluation. Your ideas that receive high evaluation may also be
shown to the general public. However, personal information will not be disclosed without your consent.
• Any form of harassment and/or the use of socially unacceptable language will not be tolerated. In such cases, those answers will not be
reflected in the scoring and your account may be suspended.

In this session, participants will mutually evaluate each other’s ideas focusing on the quality of answers provided in regards to
unmet needs “Why” and solutions “How”. The answers will be evaluated using a 4 point-scale.
What is the Evaluation Session?
For each idea, please evaluate the “Why” and “How” using the 4 point-scale.
Why: Whether you can empathize with the unmet need described in the scenario; whether is it
a need that has not yet been solved by other means.
How: Whether the idea is novel and highly feasible.
The session will end when all of the ideas assigned to you have been evaluated.

The circle is a progress chart with the numbers in the
middle showing the “Question currently being
answered/Total no of questions”.
The green outline of the circle shows the overall progress.
You can review and edit your evaluations through the
“View Answers” page.
Note that any modifications or edits to your evaluation will
be saved and your previous evaluation will be deleted.
Once you have evaluated all of the ideas assigned to you,
the “Finish” button will become activated. Note that once
you select the “Finish” button the session will end and you
will not be able to edit or review your answers.

Select the question(s) you wish to edit from the “Answers” page to correct
your entries.
• You may end the Evaluation session once you have evaluated all of the idas assigned to you.
• Please be aware that there is a session time limit. Once the session has begun, the session time limits cannot be reset or extended.
Additionally, only the evaluations completed within the time limit will be used to calculate your score.
• After completing all of the evaluations assigned to you, click the “Finish” button the end the session.
• The evaluation 4 point-scale is as follows: “strongly agree”, “agree”, “disagree”, “strongly disagree”. Please distribute your ratings evenly
as possible along this scale when evaluating the ideas assigned to you. i.e. do not give the same rating for all of the ideas.
• Incomplete or invalid evaluations e.g. giving the same evaluation rating on the scale for all ideas, may result in a lower score calculation on
your overall test results.

You will be notified of your Scoring results and disclosure date by the company/organization that has sponsored the test.
