ITERATE

Page 7: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

metaphor: why?

metaphor making is really about iteration inspiration

Page 8: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

“house of straw” vs. “house of cards”“big bad wolf” vs. “huff and puff”

notice what each makes you feel, see, smell, hear, taste

metaphor: example?

“outfoxing your opponent” vs. “outsmarting your opponent”

Page 9: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

Using the experience of your solution from user testing

and identifying sensory non-verbal cues

so that you activate your user’s imagination to fill in the blanks.

metaphor: what?

you want the user’s imagination to do all the of work

(you just set the right trajectory)

Page 10: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

metaphor: how?

1. use your senses2. access your

imagination3. test your metaphor

Page 11: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

Abstract away everything particular to the context

and extract only that which is your solution experience.

metaphor: how?

Page 12: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

“a solid foundation weathers all turns of the wheel of fortune”

vs.

“sweat on the brow when preparing pays off in facing adversity”

metaphor: why?

Page 13: DESIGN.EDU K12 Lab Network Pop Up Class

1. establish roles within the team2. set the stage3. let the user experience the prototype4. observe the experience5. check in with the user6. record your learning throughout7. iterate and repeat
