Designer Zach Pyle brings a fine art background to his work at Hubbardton Forge. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School for American Crafts with a B.F.A. in Metalcrafts and Jewelry. His design inspirations often come while exploring traditional tools and techniques of metalsmithing and finding innovative and unexpected uses in a modern context. “Styles fade and trends vanish but the values and techniques of honest craftsmanship of the traditional blacksmith continue to be a cornerstone in our success. Hubbardton Forge creates a unique relationship between the needs of modern industrial design and the romance of hand-forged iron.” Zach Pyle Manifold Table Lamp I approached the design of the Manifold lamp as a challenge in using simple shapes with complex characteristics as building blocks to create a dynamic sculptural form – a design exercise in ordered chaos. I find one of the most fascinating aspects of making things by hand to be when the process goes “awry”, sometimes organically and sometimes unexpectedly, and the result is more interesting than the intent. e composition of the Manifold is a nod to that idea and is emphasized by the handcrafted details and finish treatment.
