DESIGNING AN EFFECTIVE TITLE

Research into titles from the romantic drama genre

The Fault in Our Stars The Fault in Our Stars is a text that we

have gained the most influence for our short film.

As for designing a title we felt it would be beneficial to follow some of the conventions used with it as the film targets a similar audience.

The font appears to be wrote as it is not serif and is all in capital letters. Furthermore, the fact it appears to have been wrote in chalk would make the link to it’s innocent nature as it would give the connotation of a child writing their story , thus a child narrative voice.

Also the title used the colour blue which is another feature we use within our film as it gives the connotations of a freedom or the lack of.

Endless Love Similarly, the teen drama

‘Endless Love’ uses the colour scheme of blue and white to show innocence and purity in the story being told.

This is typical of teen romance films as it presents the idea of first love and how powerful this is.

In contrast, this title used a simple clearly typed font that could perhaps draw more attention to the actual words “Endless Love” suggesting how the story is about a relationship that started from the beginning and will never end.

My Sister’s Keeper Alike the other two titles this

title uses white text against a pale blue background.

It is clear that this feature should be used within our film title as it would give the connotations of pure and teenage love.

This title from My Sisters Keeper also used a typed font which again could bring more focus to the typed text in that the story is based on a sister relationship.

What will be the main features in my title? As I have looked through a number of titles, I can establish the strongest features in each and the approach I would like to take with my own title. Firstly, the colour blue and its connotations would be an ideal background or font colour and would follow the conventions of a teen drama title. Secondly, the font style will appear more written than typed as I think this will symbolise the fact that it is a young person telling her story and who she made the promise to .
