Introduction This guide will show those with an on premise Virtual Segmentation Platform (VSP) how to

configure Desktop LP to allow remote connections to computers that the VSP can then

reach on the internal network.

Those with an off premise VSP should use the Device LinkUp + RDP Guide.

The steps for configuring Desktop LP are:

1. Add a User in VSP

2. Add Host Computer in Desktop LP

3. Configure Remote Desktop Service

4. Use Desktop LP to connect

Requirements:

Windows Professional Edition or greater

Administrator login credentials to the Virtual Segmentation Platform (VSP)

1. Add a User in VSP Log into the Virtual Segmentation Platform (VSP) with your administrator credentials.

Click User Manager on the Administration menu of the Virtual Segmentation Platform (VSP).

Click the add user icon .

Give a username for the account before clicking Save.

2. Add a Host Computer Add a RDP host computer by clicking Desktop LP on the VSP sidebar.

Add remote connections by clicking Add Host Computer.

Name the new connection and choose a connection type from the drop-down list.

Click General to provide the name and IP information including the port and domain

name for the new connection.

Click Access and add the user created in Step 1 to Desktop LP.

3. Configure Remote Desktop Services

3.1 Enable Remote Desktop Services Open Allow remote access to your computer.

In System Properties’ Remote tab, check Allow remote connections to this computer and

Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level

Authentication (recommended).

Save the new System Properties settings by clicking OK.

3.1.1 Adding Multiple User Accounts

Click Select Users.

To add a RDP authenticated Windows user, click Add. This user may already have access

granted.

Type in the username before clicking Check Names.

Click Check Names, and click OK:

The user will now be listed in the box. Click OK.

Save the new System Properties settings by clicking OK.

In standard Windows installations, this will not allow multiple users to

work on the computer simultaneously.

3.2 Adjust Firewall Settings On the Windows machine receiving the RDP connection, go to Windows Firewall settings

in Control Panel and click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.

Ensure that private is checked for Remote Desktop.

Make sure to secure the firewall again after the connection is made.

3.2 Disable Sleep Mode If the target machine goes into sleep mode, the remote connection will disconnect.

If the machine to which you are connecting with Remote Desktop is a Windows

machine, navigate to Power Options in Control Panel before clicking Change power-

saving settings.

Click Change when the computer sleeps.

In the Put the computer to sleep dropdown, select Never.

3.3 Remove Visual Effects It is recommended to remove visual effects on the remote Windows to improve user

experience.

Using the search function or Control Panel, navigate to Adjust the appearance and

performance of Windows.

In the Visual Effects tab, choose Adjust for best performance.

4. Use iConnect On the computer you are connecting from, log into the VSP using the login credentials

for the new VSP user created in Step 1.

Click Desktop LP.

Click the connect button next to the computer you want to connect to.

Open the RDP file that is downloaded:

On Windows, click Connect in the popup to establish the Remote Desktop connection.

Enter the Windows user credentials before clicking OK.

The Remote Desktop session is established.

If the password is entered incorrectly or if too much time passed

before the password was entered, click the connect button again in

the VSP.
