  • Udaipur is the historic capital of the kingdom ofMewarin the formerRajputana Agency. It is often called the "Venice of the East", and is also nicknamed the "Lake City" or "City of Lakes.Udaipur is regarded as one of the most romantic cities of the World.The city is an inspiration for the imagination of the poets, painters and writers.

  • Founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh IIMaharana Udai Singh II, in the wake of 16th century emergence of artillery warfare decided to move his capital to a more secure location.Udaipur remained the capital of the state, which became aprincely stateofBritish Indiain 1818.MaharanaMahendra Singh Mewar(the Royal Family of Udaipur),is the current symbolic ruler of the city.

  • City Palace, Udaipur

    Series of palaces built at different times from 1559.

    The palace contains many antique articles, paintings, decorative furniture and utensils and attracts thousands of visitors every day.

    Celebration mall (Highest rated mall of Rajasthan) that is India's first and only Heritage mall, is now serving as a tourist attraction destination.

  • The Lake Palace was built in 1743-1746. It is made of marble and is situated on Jag Niwas island inLake Pichola. It was originally built as a royal summer palace, but is now a luxury 5 Star hotel, operating under the "Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces" banner.

  • Bagore Ki Haveli was built in the late 18th century by the Prime Minister of Mewar. It's located on the edge of Lake Pichola, at Gangaur Ghat (which is a relaxing place to sit by the water). After five years of restoration work, the Haveli was converted into a museum.

  • Monsoon PalaceA favoured destination of the royal family during the monsoon season. The Palace belonged to the Mewar royal family until it was placed in government hands. After being closed for quite a while, it's been restored but isn't very well maintained. The Palace is a popular sunset spot due to its unsurpassed view over Udaipur.Those who are familiar with James Bond's Octopussymovie will also recognize the Palace as the home of the principal villain, Kamal Khan.

  • Lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake are the most popular of Udaipur's man-made lakes. A boat ride on Lake Pichola gives a whole new perspective to the city, especially the City Palace Complex.

  • Udaipur is a romantic land that had been favourite place of the Rajputs. The city is still inhabited by people of Bhil tribe, they be dressed in typical Rajsthani dress with loads of silver jewelry. The lakes, temples, huge forts and palaces boast about the rich legacy and heritage of the beautiful city.

    Folk Dance and MusicBhavai, Ghoomar, Kachhi Ghodi, Kalbeliya and Terahtaali are the unusual dances of Rajasthan.Dance of Dandi Gair is associated with Marwar and also with Udaipur.They prefer melodious music of Morchang, Naad, Tanpura, Sarangi and many other instruments that used to echo the courts of Mewar rulers.

  • Cuisine-Comprises vegetarian dishes as the place is highly dominated by Jainism and Vaishnavism. Food is usually made from lots of vegetables, lentils and a great variety of spices Dried mango by the name of 'Ocra' and beans of 'sangri' is accompanied by many meals. Extensive use of chillies makes their dishes delicious.

    People- Well built, simple, cheerful and good to be with. prefer wearing bright coloured clothes. The traditional attire of women is 'Ghaghra choli' and for men, angrakha (Kurta) and dhoti.

  • Mewar festival Observed to welcome the arrival of spring season with all zest and dedication in Udaipur.The spirit of the festival can be seen throughout the state of Rajasthan, but flavour is found in Udaipur since it has been always the governing place of the Mewar rulers.

    Shilgram crafts fair-Held annually in the west of the city of Udaipur. Organized to promote art and craft of Rajasthan, perfect destination to try out the hand woven clothes, embroideries, mirror works and handicrafts.
