A Unique Microbrewery-Restaurant Concept
Brewing beer began in Flanders, in Northern France, and spread to numerous small villages throughout Europe. The process used to be very different than it is today. It was the local brewer who would fill the vessels of pubs and cafés with beer crafted from his own closely guarded recipes. With the advent of industrialization, however, local breweries began to disappear, drawing an end to the era of authentic microbrewery.
Twenty-eight years ago, a family of French brewers decided to revive the deeply rooted traditions of the past three generations. The 3 Brewers—“3” for three generations of brewing tradition—opened their very first microbrewery restaurant in 1986, in Place de la Gare, Lille, France. Since then, operations have expanded to twenty-eight locations in France as well as to other parts of the world, namely Brazil and Canada.
The 3 Brewers’ success can be attributed to its distinctive neighbourhood concept, which involves fresh food and fresh non-pasteurized beer made from traditional recipes and the purest of ingredients—all prepared and brewed on site at each restaurant.
A varied menu includes simple “brasserie” fare, bistro dishes, and local favourites. The house specialty, in keeping with traditions from France, is the “flammequeche”—Flamm for short—an Alsatian-style open-faced pie served with varied toppings.
A stunning authentic microbrewery installation with European décor mixed in with a little local flavour makes the atmosphere inimitable. Where else would you find a restaurant with sacks of barley stacked shoulder-high, gleaming copper tanks, and aging barrels in full view?
The 3 Brewers restaurants offer a special beer-tasting experience in an authentic microbrewery atmosphere reminiscent of the old days. Their mission is simple—to share with their patrons their passion for beer.
