In the field, Warren has successfully planned and orchestrated public meetings and open days. He

Basic Assessment for the Stabilization of the South Coast Rail Line Embankment, Metrorail
Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, South Africa
[Ongoing Project] Metrorail was proposing to undertake embankment stabilization activities along a
500 meter segment of the South Coast Rail Line. Previous flood events had eroded the embankment
posing a risk to the rail transport infrastructure and the safety of the passengers commuting by rail.
EIA for the Construction of a Secondary Steel Foundry, DAS Steel (Pty) Ltd.
Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
A secondary steel foundry was proposed in Eddie Hagan Drive, Cato Ridge. Phase 1 would involve
the construction of a melt furnace. Phase 2 would involve the construction of another melt furnace
and a hot rolling mill.
Environmental Authorization Amendment for the Proposed Bulk Water Supply and
Reticulation to the Kwahlokohloko Sub-supply area 1, uThungulu District Municipality
Near Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal
An application was submitted to amend an aspect of the environmental authorization that was
granted for the abovementioned development. The client sought to change the location of a pump
station.

[Ongoing Project] Client proposed a new ‘Total’ petroleum filling station with ancillary infrastructure in
the Town of Harding.

The Client required the appropriate GIS maps to accompany various mining permit applications.
Basic Assessment for the Proposed Compulsory Truck Stop and Road Widening to
accommodate a Truck Crawler Lane on National Route 2, SANRAL,

[Ongoing Project] SANRAL has identified a segment of the N2 between Kokstad and Harding as a
‘hot spot’ in terms of road incidents. A compulsory truck stop and road widening to accommodate a

Basic Assessment for Zaaifontein-Mathondwane 88kV Wolf Line Establishment, Eskom
Ladysmith / Emnambithi KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Eskom sought to augment the power supply to the region to the north of Ladysmith. Various routing
options were considered for the 88kV Wolf Line between the existing Zaaifontein Substation and the
recently constructed Mathondwane Substation.
Landfill Site Selection and Solid Waste Management Plan, Umzimkhulu Local Municipality
South western KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
[Ongoing Project] Umzimkhulu Local Municipality has an unpermitted waste disposal site. The most
feasible site for a permitted landfill site will be selected and a solid waste management plan will be
prepared.
EIA for Harrison Flats Power Supply Upgrade, Eskom
Cato Ridge, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Cato Ridge is a node earmarked for industrial, residential and commercial development. The
augmentation of power supply to the area is required that it may realise its developmental potential.
Compulsory Water Licensing in the Mhlathuze Catchment, Department of Water Affairs,
Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
The Mhlathuze Catchment is water-stressed and is considered to be a catchment requiring water
allocation reform. As such, the Department of Water Affairs called all water users within the
catchment, undertaking water uses in terms of Section 21 a, b and d of the National Water Act (Act
36 of 1998), to compulsory licensing. Water allocation schedules for existing and new users were
prepared. Specialized hydrological modelling informed the production of the schedules.
Basic Assessment for the Ebony Drive Rezoning Application, Private Client

The proponent sought to rezone a recently acquired parcel of land from Public Open Space to
Special Residential. This triggered a Listed Activity under the EIA Regulations (R. 543 and R. 544 of
June 2010), requiring a Basic Environmental Assessment.
EIA for the proposed Mpofana Bulk Water Supply Scheme, Umgeni Water
KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, South Africa
Umgeni Water intended to construct pipeline infrastructure to distribute water in bulk from the water
treatment works below the proposed Spring Grove Dam to reservoirs at key nodes throughout the
region. Public Participation was a major focus in the EIA.
EMP for the proposed Rega Place Access Road, eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) was prepared to control the construction of the proposed
access road from an environmental perspective.

The Mandeni Local Municipality sought to meet the critical need for additional burial sites within its
municipal boundaries thereby preventing the proliferation of unauthorized burial sites and fulfilling its
constitutional mandate to provide basic services.

In response to the anticipated national fuel shortage, Transnet Pipelines proposed to build a fuel

country (Durban to Heidelburg).

Maputo, Mozambique
Corridor Sands Limited proposed to develop an ilmenite smelter in Matola west of Maputo.
EIAs for Upgrade of Bayhead Road and Construction of a Link Road
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
With the intent to lower the traffic volumes on the Port of Durban’s roads and to ensure the effective
functioning of the port road and transport system, Transnet Limited proposed to upgrade Bayhead
Road as a phased development. The traffic was only likely to become more congested as the needs
of the port users and the economy increased. To solve this growing problem, Transnet Limited
undertook to upgrade and expand key roads providing access to and from the port.
EIA for Vopak Terminals Durban Efficiency Project
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Vopak desired to restructure the infrastructure at its four sites within the Cutler Complex, Island View,
to align the operations with changing market demands, to increase storage capacity for commodities
and to operate more efficiently.
Urban Integrated Assessment Framework for Climate Change, eThekwini Municipality

As part of the broader climate change project, the future distribution of the vegetation types within the
eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality was modelled under various climate scenarios. This provided
useful information from a climate change planning and a biodiversity planning perspective.

Kweneng Province, Botswana
Passive monitoring of hydrogen fluoride emission levels was undertaken at various distances from
the processing facility in Jwaneng Diamond Mine. This long-term study included Vegetation
Assessments.
