Happy Fathers Day!
REFLECTIONS WITH FATHER MICHAEL :
HONORING OUR FATHERS DURING THE PANDEMIC.
Today is Father's Day! I hope no one forgot it. O Yes, indeed, it is
Father's Day Sunday! Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic it is still
important to remind ourselves that today is a special day to celebrate and
honor our dads--- the men who made special contribution to our lives. We
must not allow the current pandemic to divert our attention from this im-
portant reality. Our fathers, like our moms, deserve our gratitude, honor,
and celebration, because they are our heroes. As such, we owe a
tremendous debt of gratitude to them. May they be blessed by our
supreme Father, God Himself, who loves us beyond measure! We also
pray today that eternal rest be granted to those fathers, including my
mine, who have departed this life to answer the call to eternity. We miss
them but we are hopeful that they are resting in the abode of the Most
High.
My friends and fellow reflectors, it is never easy to be a father, a real
dad. Fatherhood is a special vocation which should mirror the Fatherhood
of God Himself. It is not a vocation to be toyed with. Hence genuine
fathers are like reflections of God in our lives. They are faithful, patient,
caring, forgiving, and strong. Those of us who were very close to our
fathers know first-hand how much they go through to take care of their
families. At times, they toiled from morning to night in order to bring
comfort and security to us. At times when I think of my father, the
memory of his leaving the house early in the morning and returning late
at night with some basic household necessities fill me with a sense
gratitude and awe. I ask myself, "How can someone be so caring and
unselfish, inconveniencing himself almost on a daily basis without
applause or regrets?" As I ponder on this, I increasingly realize how
often our fathers are unappreciated even today. What strikes me about this
perennial 'injustice" is that we, their children, practice it almost
unconsciously. For instance, as
little children when our moms
return from the Farmer's Market
we instinctively run to welcome
them, expecting that they pur-
chased some goodies for us like

REFLECTIONS WITH FATHER MICHAEL
HONORING OUR FATHERS DURING THE PANDEMIC. (continued form front cover)
On the other hand, when our fathers return in the evening or late night, we just say, "welcome," if at
all we are still awake when they return! What a contrast! Sadly, these are the men who have
sacrificed themselves all day long for their families well-being but in return they receive less than
enthusiastic welcome home. What an injustice!
This sort of injustice is still manifesting itself even to this day in the discriminate ways we
celebrate Father's and Mother's Days in many families all over the world. On Mother's Day, what do
we witness? Without a doubt, we witness lively and festive atmosphere, with gifts of various kinds
all over the place. Simply put, our moms receive gifts galore from us their children. Many of them
are in addition to taking Mom out to fancy restaurants where they eat anything their hearts desire.
How wonderful!
But, sadly however, similar treatment is often not given to our fathers. Why? In a way, we all
are complicit in this, but we can and should do better, can we not? Surely, we can learn to treat our
fathers much better than we are doing. We can and should appreciate them more than many of us
are currently doing. We should remember that, our fathers, like our mothers, are irreplaceable and
important in our lives. We are duty-bound to honor and celebrate both, because both have intrinsic
values in our lives. An African adage says, "He who forgets his father, forgets a vital part of his
history." I agree. Our dads form a vital part of our history. We should love and cherish them today
and always.
During this pandemic, for instance, we have witnessed the different crosses that fathers, along
with mothers, carry in their families and communities. In the midst of the scary pandemic they still
go out to shop for the basic household items, including food. The fear of catching the vicious virus
doesn't deter them from venturing out, risking their lives for the well-being of their families.
A single dad once told me in late March this year during the early period of the lockdown that he
had searched almost every store around for toilet papers and found none. When I asked him what he
planned to do next, he simply smiled and said. "I will keep searching. I cannot stop." What a dad!
The fear of Corona virus won't stop him for searching for that important household item. Why?
Because he loves his children more than he fears the Virus. Many dads are like that. He is an
example of a caring, patient and unselfish father. My dad was like that, and I hope and pray that
yours was like that also.
This explains why we need a change of attitude to our fathers, knowing how much they love and
care for us. Therefore, I recommend that we learn to treat them better than we are currently doing.
For instance, let us begin to realize that our dads are not allergic to fancy restaurants, nor that they
allergic to assorted gifts during Father's Day and Christmas. As the expression goes, "What is good
for the goose is also good for the gander!"
As for those fathers who do not live up to what they are called as fathers, we remind them that
they are "men" not "teens". Like Jeremiah in our first reading today, they should face and handle
life's ups and downs like mature and God-fearing men, and not "chicken
out" when challenges confront them. We therefore pray today for a change
of heart in lukewarm fathers. We pray that the Lord may touch and turn
their lives around for the better for the benefit of their families and our com-
munity, as well as for their own accountability before the throne of the Most
High when life's journey is ended. To reiterate, being a father is not a lim-
ousine ride. It requires hard work and sacrifice, as well as sustained pray-

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THIS MONTH OF JUNE 2020:
11. As announced some weeks ago, during this pandemic church bulletins will be published
only once a month, instead of usual weekly publication. However, when things normalize the
weekly production will resume. To this end, our next bulletin will be published on the last
Sunday of July, July 26, 2020. Please, let us take note of this important adjustment. All rele-
vant announcements will still be communicated through the pulpit every weekend at Mass, and
via emails etc. Anyone with important announcements or information is asked to contact the
parish office. Thanks for your cooperation.
2. We are glad to announce that Sunday September 27, 2020 has now been chosen as the date
for this year's annual "Apple Festival" for St. Raymond-Our Lady of Good Counsel. It is hoped
that the occasion will start with episcopal Mass at 10.30am, all things being equal, assuming
that the current pandemic is under control by that time. Whatever happens, however, the
festival Mass will be held, as well as the raffle draw. All parishioners, alumni, and friends
are asked to purchase raffle tickets, even if they do not attend the Mass or drawing and
help to ensure the success of the special occasion. Please, spread this information to your
friends and neighbors to come and enjoy this fun-filled occasion.
3. As we all know, this is the Budget period. The pandemic delayed this year's budget
preparations, we are glad that at last we are ready to submit the Budget to the archdiocese
before the end of this month. To this end; A) Our Lady Queen of Heaven-Good Shepherd
joint Finance Council and Parish Council have examined and approved their church
Budget following their emergency meeting on Tuesday June 16. B) St. Jude joint Parish
Council and Finance Council will be holding their emergency Budget meeting on Monday,
June 22, at the usual time of 7pm at the church basement, where social distancing will be
observed. The same goes for St. Raymond-Our Lady of Good Counsel PPC and FC whose
emergency meeting will be on Thursday, June 25, at 6pm. It is hoped that all members
who can make it will attend these emergency meetings to discuss the annual Budget
during this unprecedented time. See you on the respective dates. Thank you.
4. The annual "Good Times" festival for this year has come and gone
for Our Lady Queen of Heaven-GS on Sunday June 14. Despite the on-
going social distancing and other challenges, the low-profiled event
went well, and the raffle draw was hitch-free, thanks to the dedicated
organizers, led by Richard Larkins and his team of helpers. Let us
hope that the Festival at St. Raymond-OLGC on September 27, as well
as St. Jude feast day celebration on the last Sunday in October will all
turn out nicely also. Let's keep these faith-communities in our thoughts
and prayer, as they plan for their special occasions. In the meantime, let

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THIS MONTH OF JUNE 2020:
(continued form page 3)
5. By now many of us must have heard of the new vision of
the Archdiocese, known as, "Families of Parishes." It is a spe-
cial plan to try to arrange parishes in effective groups that
will collaborate meaningfully with one another in areas of
ministry, social, and administration etc. We will be learn-
ing more about this ambitious vision in the coming weeks
and months. Fortunately, we in these three parishes are al-
ready practicing this vision in some form. Therefore, it
shouldn't be a big surprise or shock to those already used to
collaborative ministry at some level. So, let's watch out and
pray for the success of this new and bold archdiocesan vision
for the whole Archdiocese.
6. It is necessary to remind us once more of some of the
Important guidelines during this pandemic:- keeping all
windows and doors opened during service when possible;
- no going round by ushers to collect the weekly offerings;
- no gathering in groups in the church to converse or discuss
after Mass is over. As soon as Mass is over all are expected
to leave the church and go home. Any discussion may be
done outside, not in the church, because the less talk that goes
on within the confine of the church, the less the chances of
spreading the virus unconsciously. Please, let us endeavor to
observe the guidelines, because they are put in place for the
well-being of everyone. Thanks for your cooperation.
7. We are glad to announce that the damaged rectory base-
ment at St. Jude has now been repaired and painted. The in-
surance covered all the cost, but the church will pay the usual
five hundred dollar, ($500.00) deductible. Also, St. Jude
Food Pantry which temporarily closed for a short time
during the peak of the pandemic, has since reopened and
has continued to serve the community, as it has been
doing for about fifty years now. We thank God for the
dedication for the Volunteers at the Pantry, as well as at
the St. Vincent De Paul centers at St. Raymond-OLGC
and Our Lady Queen of Heaven-Good Shepherd. We
cannot thank them enough for what they are doing for
our communities and neighborhoods during this trying
time. The same goes to Deo Gratias Ministry of the Felici-
an Sisters. All are making a difference in the lives of our
needy folks. To God be the glory!
8. Last but not the least, we again appeal to all parishioners
and alumni to continue to support their church, particularly
during this trying time. It should be remembered that every
