Grundfos GO - Easy controlling of pumps

Grundfos approached Develco about development of a re-mote control for their pumps of the future. What they had in mind was a mobile toolbox for professional users of their pumps and systems. The toolbox should provide access to control the pump, reporting and data collection.The new pump controller should be hand-held and easy and intuitive to use. This development task was outside Grundfos core compe-tences, as the toolbox would be a kind of accessory to go with their core products.Another challenge was the deadline. The launch of two new product series was only seven months away, and they could not be launched without the mobile toolbox. Develco there-fore had to manage the project very tightly. Develco devel-oped a unit capable of communicating via radio technology

as well as infrared communication.Develco was in charge of development of all product vari-ants with regard to: Electronics and embedded software Mechanical engineering Project management and manufacturing implementa-

tionDevelco made a hardware add-on in two different versions, suitable for Apple devices and for mobile devices based on Android. The unit communicates via iAP/iAP2 and is plugged directly into an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Separate porta-ble hardware was also developed that can communicate via Bluetooth with both iOS products and Android units.The app Grundfos GO can be downloaded for free both for iOS and Android.

Nabby - The worlds lowest radiationNabby has introduced an innovative new baby monitor, which is developed with expertise from Develco. It uses bluetooth communication between the monitor and a smart phone for transmission of alarms, status and audio streaming. Develco has been responsible for the implementation of hardware, software and the plastic enclosure.

A special long distance Bluetooth connection pairs the Nabby monitor with a smartphone or tablet and there is no need to fret about Wi-Fi or Inter-net connection. Because of the Bluet-hooth, Nabbys connection is safe and unique and supports a strong two-way connection between the pair that matters a smartphone and the child. Most baby monitors have a very high level of radiation, especially vid-eo and WI-FI solutions. Nabby is the safest possible product, which means super low radiation. While most other monitors keep a high constant con-nection, Nabby is intelligently de-signed to minimalize this with a new world record, which is 0.08mW aver-age radiation.

NoNOx - Motor controllers for automotive electronics

The customer decided to approach Develco based on our expertise in feedpump controllers. Emitec needed help to develop an electronic motor controller for their concept, which was initially meant to be a concept to supplement their existing business.Develco developed both the hard-ware and the embedded software for the product. Develco was in charge of the devel-opment right from the first prototype through product maturing to final run-in and validation of production.The product was developed in a num-ber of versions to accommodate both retrofitting to existing vehicles and integration into new vehicles. Our significant contribution was enabled by deep and extensive expertise with-in electronically commutated motors and control of step motors.

Develco developed a controller that could measure various parameters, calculate feed data and then feed the exact amount of liquid required into the exhaust gas. Automotive electronics is subject to extremely rigorous require-ments as the electronics are meant to function in harsh environments and must comply with a vast number of standards and test requirements.

Volvo - Robust ECUEngine Control Unit for Volvo Construction Equipment.

In 2008, Develco and GPV established collaboration on developing a new Engine Control Unit for Volvo Construction Equipment (V-ECU). Develco was responsible for development of electronics, and GPV was responsible for the mechanic integration and production. The V-ECU is the central control unit in Volvo CEs off-road Articulated Haulers and potentially in Wheel Loaders and Excavators etc., which in use are exposed to harsh environments, heavy vibrations, dirt, temperature fluctuations, damp etc. This implies huge requirements regarding electrical as well as mechanical robustness. Develco has great expertise within development of electronics for the automotive industry, but this was a special challenge due to the immense technical demands. The complete V-ECU is a complex unit with both analogue and digital techno- logy, over 2400 components, and high component density. The many I/O with OBD (On Board Diagnostics), both analogue with high accuracy (0.02%) and digital outputs with up to 3 Amps. output power, repre-sented a great challenge for both electrical and thermal design. The safety requirements demanded OBD on all I/O to ensure that the unit is able to determine whether a given output functions properly or perhaps is shorted, interrupted or for some other reason does not work. To enhance safety margins, the V-ECU was designed to comply with significantly tightened EMC requirements in relation to the applicable regulatory requirements.The V-ECU is designed to be consistent with the requirements for an IEC 61508 SIL2 classification. (Safety Integrity Level 2).

ServicesDevelcos services include New Product Introduction (NPI), handling of prototyping, ramp-up and run-in of production and factory inspections. The purpose for the NPI process is to involve the production companies early in the development process. The NPI process shall ensure the project and pro-duction requirements are being implemented in the produc-tion set-up and supply chain. Develco offers and guarantees our customers a smooth, coherent supply chain flow.

EMS PartnerThe EMS may be located in Denmark, Europe or in the Far East. The choice of location will depend on the need for flexibility and the opportunity for optimization, based on an evaluation of the specific product involved.The EMS provider is selected in cooperation with the custom-er. Once production has been run in and tested, a continu-ous cost optimization process can be initiated.

Product maintenanceAs the competences of EMS suppliers tend to be narrow and strictly manufacturing-oriented, they will often be unable to meet the customers needs for problem solving and continu-ous product updating.Develco can help secure the customer a smooth and coher-ent supply chain.

Develco was founded on September 1, 1989 by engineer Aksel Kloster Srensen, who quickly got development tasks for companies such as Grundfos, Crisplant, CCI and the Norwegian taxi industry. Six months later, a former colleague, Kresten Nrgaard Christensen, joined the company.In 2002 Develco was transformed into a limited liability com-pany owned by its management. The customer base has evolved over the years across indus-tries and internationally, and Develco has worked for leading companies in several continents. Develco has always prima-rily been an engineering company with a strong foundation of high technological professionalism. Develco has achieved a leading position in certain fields, notably in the use of wire-less technologies. This led in 2007 to a spin-off from Develco with the establishment of Develco Products, which makes in-telligent control products based on ZigBee technology. COO Regner Krug Bendtsen, who joined the company in 1991, says about the evolution of Develco:
