Background Context

• Newcastle University ranked 8th in UK for Medical Research

• Research-based teaching heavily embedded into all degree programmes

• Students engage in academic research through numerous opportunities.

• Highlights include:– final year honours research project– lab assistant scheme

Student perspective

• more importantly, what is expected of a student within such research roles.

• Student feedback is consistently positive for all research-based schemes.

• However many current students report feeling highly apprehensive and worried about their role in research.

Project aims

• To capture the student experience of research in a series of reflective video diaries.

Credibility, student driven, informative
