What I do in my project?

Tell the difference between English and other language(Chinese) in a web site which concern about Usability Engineering.

Why it is good for Usability Engineering?

There are almost 12 principles in Usability Engineering

So focus on one principle that Suitable for the Widest Range of Users(language)

Main activities I do:

Identify what will cause Usability Engineering problems in the websites.(cultureAnd linguistic)

Identify whether the content in the paper fits the requirement above.

Analyze how these differences will have influence on the Usability Engineering in a web site.

Give my solutions to the problems.

In these processes, I meet a problem:

I am not sure about which parts in the websites will cause Usability Engineering problems

Way to solve the problem:

Refer to the existing ISO / IEC TR 19764 document, there are several points:

Input method, Formatting, Searching and so on. So the ISO document gives me the direction I will go.

How to ensure my project is useful?

1. The problems I find are really make some users uncomfortable

2. My solutions are feasible

China has different formats in addressing and Chinese addresses are more complicated

For example(Address Recognition):

Chinese address format:

From bigger area to smaller areaPostcode are all numbersMore level

English address format:

From smaller area to bigger areaPostcode are combined with number and letterLess level

Problem: Mailing address of China is not suitable in the website of aircanada.ca

Solution: Make difference between different countries(more space for China)

Future work:

Find more examples(another 10) to complete my project.

More analysis for why these culture or linguistic issues matter Usability Engineering.

It needs more work in the future because many aspects have culture and linguisticIssues not only in websites.
